The US Census Bureau is adding refugees to its immigrant count

by The Associated Press 12/16/2024

The U.S. Census Bureau is changing how it counts immigrants in annual estimates by including more people who were admitted for humanitarian, and often temporary, reasons.

The change is being made in an effort to better reflect population shifts this decade, officials said Monday. Population estimates, including immigration, are due to be released Thursday showing how the populations of the United States and the 50 states changed this year. However, the new approach to counting immigrants will only be reflected nationally.

The percentage of U.S. residents who were foreign born rose to its highest level in more than a century in 2023. It could be even higher under the new methodology. Census Bureau officials wouldn’t say Monday how much larger they expected the immigration figures to be in Thursday’s release because of the change.

Capturing the number of new immigrants is the most difficult part of the annual U.S. population estimates. Although the newly announced change in methodology is unrelated, the timing comes a month before a return to the White House of President-elect Donald Trump, who has promised mass deportations of people in the United States illegally.

This is bogus! They can add as many as they want because no one knows how many have come in the last 4 years or what their real identities are.
Congress needs to act on this pronto.

You know the illegal vote criminals love this stuff as they justify to add millions of votes (ballots) in 1000’s of cities. The GOPe congress will never do anything about it either.

There’s only ONE reason they’re doing this...and that’s to get more democrat politicians in power.

This is a pure democrat power grab.

The article notes: “However, the new approach to counting immigrants will only be reflected nationally.”

If they are not assigning the refugees to individual states, that it cannot effect the apportionment numbers.

This addition to the reports is really just an acknowledgement of the actual population across the US.

I am a bit confused as to what they are adding as the yearly “Annual and Cumulative Estimates of the Components of Resident Population Change for the United States, Regions, States, District of Columbia, and Puerto Rico” has always included this footnote:

Net international migration for the United States includes the international migration of both U.S.-born and non-U.S.-born populations. Specifically, it includes: (a) the net international migration of the non-U.S. born, (b) the net migration of U.S. born to and from the United States, (c) the net migration between the United States and Puerto Rico, and (d) the net movement of the Armed Forces population between the United States and overseas.

Another flushable waste of taxpayer funds by Marxist political hacks...

This should be a Day #2 target for DOGE...
U.S. House representation should not be affected by the 50-60 million vile, diseased, migrant invaders that infected the Nation’s body...

Conversation at the Census Bureau:

So how else can we increase the population count of the heavily Democrat districts?

Well we can add all the refugees and asylum seekers just like we do all the illegal immigrants.

Steven, I'm sorry to say this but I make it a habit of avoiding news sources that have been asleep for four years. This was reported on Bongino.com in July of 2022.

In fact, Trump45 signed an Executive Order prohibiting the practice. I don't know whether OBiden countermanded Trump's EO or if the Census Bureau is merely ignoring it.

Report: California Has Six Extra Representatives Because Illegals Are Counted in Census

Refugees are not illegal aliens. This is about the count of refugees who are vetted outside the US and move her with government permission. Not saying I agree with this policy, it is just not the story is discussing.

You are referring to a different issue.
