A federal union pushes back after congressional leaders and DOGE call out teleworking

The clash over working from home is expected to be one of the major battles for the incoming Trump administration.

The nation's biggest federal union is pushing back against claims by President-elect Donald Trump's supporters over teleworking for civil servants.

The American Federation of Government Employees, which represents 800,000 federal and Washington city workers, said assertions that staffers are abusing work-from-home flexibility are serving as cover for Republican lawmakers to try to tear down the government.

The clash over telework is expected to be one of the major battles for the incoming Trump administration as conservatives push for the civil service to return to the office.

"Exaggerating the number of federal employees who telework and portraying those who do as failing to show up for work is a deliberate attempt to demean the federal workforce and justify the wholesale privatization of public-sector jobs," AFGE said on its website.

The union added, "AFGE believes that facts matter, and that lawmakers should be guided by the facts when making decisions that affect the lives of their constituents."

Order them back to the office. Fire those who refuse.

Insubordination has a price, at least where I work.

I have, yet another, dumb question.

If these employees have civil service protection, then why are the allowed to unionize?

I never believed the 95 to 99 percent numbers - otherwise there wouldn’t be traffic jams in DC anymore...yet there still is.

Even so, I never have a problem watching federal workers squirm a bit.

The FACT is, they were hired to work in an office and that’s where they should be. Disagree? Quit.

This is all being pushed by Musk and I don’t agree with it. If you can do your job remotely than you should be able to do so. Sell the real estate and pay down the debt with it.

EXACTLY HOW MUCH PROOF OF WORK PERFORMED & SUPERVISION CAN OCCUR WHEN “WORKING FROM HOME”????

MUSK opened up that CAN OF WORMS when he bought TWITTER.

TOO many “EMPLOYEES”

TOO FEW ACTUAL HOURS WORKED.

BACK TO THE OFFICE BUILDINGS-—AND ACTUAL TIME CARDS THAT HAVE TO BE USED-—EVERY WORK DAY.

ever been a fed employee and work with other fed employees ?

i have.

if you had you would know the fed is where alot of lazy ends up

no supervision and lazy would go to zero work getting done in a timely matter.

paper pushers pushing papers to justify paying paper pushers to push paper.

make all fed employees nte 180’s temp employees.

dissolve the fed union.

drain the scribes in the swamp too.

The answer to this is to have their paychecks delivered to the office.

The traffic jams are probably lobbyists headed to offices.

Executive Order...Day One: Federal workers will show up every day. If people quit that’s good. We’ll know that they were the ones not pulling their weight. If there’s a strike...fire them like Reagan did with the air traffic controllers.

The solution to the tail wagging the dog would be to fire about 750,000 of those useless eaters.

I have seen plenty of lazy private sector workers abusing telecommuting, so don’t even try to tell me with a straight face that a bunch of fat government workers aren’t doing it as well. Musk is correct.
