Elton John has the courage to speak the truth about marijuana

[Elton] John, who had a notorious drug addiction during the 1970s and 1980s but has been clean and sober for decades, made [the following] statement in [an] interview:

John now divides his life into pre- and post-sober periods. … Those struggles have made him doubt the wisdom of legal weed. “I maintain that it’s addictive. It leads to other drugs. And when you’re stoned—and I’ve been stoned—you don’t think normally,” he says. “Legalizing marijuana in America and Canada is one of the greatest mistakes of all time.”

John couldn’t be more right.

We’ve long known that marijuana use damages the brain, especially young brains. The CDC sums up what pot does to people’s brains (endnotes omitted):

Cannabis affects brain development. Developing brains, such as those in babies, children, and teenagers, are especially susceptible to the harmful effects of cannabis and tetrahydrocannabinol (THC) because the brain is continuing to develop until around age 25. …

Using cannabis before age 18 may affect how the brain builds connections for functions like attention, memory, and learning. Cannabis's effects on attention, memory, and learning may last a long time or even be permanent, but more research is needed to fully understand these effects.

A friend of mine started using pot in her teens, and all the people in her world are pot users. They are people with innate talents … but pot use has assured that they all scrabble along at the very bottom of society.

They’re dullards, incapable of professional accomplishments, even if they can hold jobs, and their interpersonal skills are disastrously bad … P>

It says something that even as we have more evidence of how disastrously bad marijuana is for people, more and more states are legalizing it. This suggests that these states want a sedated citizenry. …

Screw Elton, not everyone who smokes a joint becomes a coke addict. He has entered his holier than thou period.

Despite the raging shouts of denial (from weed users no doubt), MJ or “weed” causes psychosis. The effects and severity of the psychosis depends on the user and the amount used.

Good for Elton john for speaking up.

I pray he’ll be saved and delivered form homosexuality like Little Richard was.

Yes, lets start throwing thousands of Americans in cages again. Lets really expand this corrupt government. After that we’ll all drink some real good drugs like whiskey and tequila to celebrate.

It gives Trump an opening to bring up drug addiction in the country. It’s a big problem and I could see him using the bully pulpit to bring the issue to the foreground. Ask Americans to lead us out of the problem. Countries with no drug problem use execution as a disincentive. We don’t have to go that far. 6 months in prison for hard drug abusers and life for dealers.

Hard to disagree with you on hard drugs. 99% of our homelessness problem is a drug problem. But after much experience in my youth and 30 years as a criminal defense lawyer I can easily say alcohol is much worse than pot. much worse. I gave up both.

“American Thinker” is scorned by my Communist neighbor. (Who has smoked Marijuana and admitted to trying cocaine.

In 1972, a US Navy enlistee was declined a Top Secret clearance if he was a user of Marijuana. (Cocaine wasn’t well known back then).

BTW: I just happened to re-write my tagline yesterday...

The current genetically modified stuff they call marijuana is hundreds of times more powerful than the stuff hippies smoked in the 1960’s. If studies are cited that say pot is not that harmful (compared to alcohol) are we comparing the new stuff or the weed of days of old? My brother in law a life long heavy pot smoker committed suicide two years ago because of a long period of depression, and don’t try to tell me the marijuana wasn’t a large contributor. They used to tell us that marijuana was not addictive, well then they told us maybe psychologically addictive, then well maybe physically addictive, but that’s okay just harmful to teenagers. Count my vote with Sir Elton John.

My best friend started smoking weed in college. Eventually got to the level of what I’d call a heavy user. Went from being an honor student in college to being a paranoid stockboy at a grocery store. Spent his whole adult life arranging fruits and vegetables, then going home and toking some joints. He refused to answer the phone and had few friends because his paranoia made him untrusting of even family members and old friends.

No one will ever make me believe pot is harmless.

One of many subjects about which popular culture and conventional wisdom are WAY off.

The government wants everyone to use marijuana, so they can have an unfettered socialist government.

Are you doing your research. I met so many above average people who became absolute morons when they used marijuana. And it makes you vote for Democrats.
