MOSCOW (Reuters) - Russian forces are just 1.5 km (1 mile) outside the Ukrainian city of Pokrovsk after Russian units pushed up from the south, and some advance groups of special forces have even entered the road and rail hub, pro-Russian war bloggers said on Friday.
Russia controls a large chunk of Ukraine and is advancing at the fastest pace since the early days of its invasion in 2022, according to open source maps.
The focus of Russia's advance since Ukraine carved out a slice of Russia's Kursk region in August is on the eastern Ukrainian region of Donetsk where Russia currently controls over 60% of the territory.
A key part of the strategy is to take Pokrovsk, which would allow Moscow to disrupt Ukrainian supply lines along the eastern front and boost its campaign to capture the city of Chasiv Yar, which sits on higher ground offering potential control of a wider area.

The advance is accelerating.
I suspect Ukraine will do all they can to keep this town.
I’ve been busy lately. How is the Ukrainian invasion of Russia going. When last I looked, they were advancing toward Moscow with no real opposition. But that was weeks ago.
You’ve been trying to conquer the village of Pokrovsk for 3 years. Yawn.
You’ve been trying to conquer the village of Chasiv Yar for 3 years, too. Double yawn.
There are 3 cauldrons where Ukraine troops are trapped or near being trapped right now along the front line. Russian troops are also close to an important Coke plant that is key for steel production, loss of that will be a big problem.
Thanks.
“important Coke plant”
They can’t have that! It’s Hunter’s!
The Russians advance to take another village, and soon they will have control of 20% of Ukraine. Then, they’ll advance to take another village and take more territory, and then, they’ll have taken control of 20% of Ukraine. If the Russians keep advancing like they’ve been doing for the last 3 years, they’ll soon have control of 20% of Ukraine.
This war has become boring. Send in the clowns to fight it out and make it interesting. Clown #1, Putin; clown #2, Zelensky; clown #3 Biden. Even if the war ends in a stalemate (like it is now), the fighting could be a lot more interesting,
Even the absurd biased, neocon ISW admits:
The Institute for the Study of War, a Washington-based think tank, estimated that Russian daily gains on Ukrainian turf averaged 22sq km (8.5 square miles) in October and 27sq km (10.4 square miles) in November.
0.27 square miles a day in October and .0.34 square miles a day in November? Lol!
At that rate, you won’t conquer Ukraine for another 2,000 years or so.
Russia gained 10.4 square miles per day in November.
There appeared to have been numerous massive fortifications built in the perimeter of Pokrovsk. Until the RF troops marched right through them, because they were never built at all, just on paper. Z and his cronies took the $$$ and ran.
Porkroast will be done soon.
gitter done
Breakthrough stronk as Stalin! Kyiv by 3535!
three long par-5s...
Let the Big Dog eat.
You’ve been trying to conquer your addicktion to your Special Ukraine Sock for 3 years, too, marcus. Triple yawn.
Just no pictures, please.
They have captured five times the land mass of the Crimean Peninsula and over 52,000 square miles. They are currently taking back what Ukraine took in the North and have surrounded a lot of Ukraine soldiers in the south. See for yourself below.
Should Russia have done better, no doubt. But Ukraine did have a decent army that the West supplemented with over 100 billion dollars in arms and advance weapons. The west provided more monetary support then the whole Russia military’s yearly budget.
Besides the military industrial complex bathing in the blood of young men, they have Russia stronger and more capable in the long run. I know you think Russians are stupid, but they are learning and building up their military industrial capabilities. They will not be weaker when this is done.
See for yourself.

Russia hasn’t captured a single Ukrainian regional capital city in 3 years. In fact, apart from some bombed out border settlements and villages, Russia hasn’t conquered any town of significance in Ukraine, let alone any city.
