Gov. Greg Abbott has now made it explicitly clear he wants the next House speaker to have been chosen by members of the Texas House Republican Caucus. Sydnie Henry reports the governor was forced yesterday to issue two statements related to the rump candidacy of Dustin Burrows (R-Lubbock).
Burrows has been seeking support from Democrats and a small faction of Republicans to secure the gavel in January after losing the House Republican caucus nomination vote last Saturday to State Rep. David Cook (R–Mansfield).
Notably, of the Republicans who opposed Abbott’s school choice push in the 2023 regular and special sessions, all are currently backing Burrows instead of their caucus nominee.
"I worked this entire year to elect conservative candidates who will pass conservative laws, including school choice. To achieve that goal we need a Texas House Speaker chosen by a majority of Republicans in accordance with the Republican Caucus Rules," wrote Abbott on 𝕏.
More than a dozen GOP opponents of school choice lost their primary elections, with many of their challengers receiving strong public support from Abbott.
"Any Republican Speaker candidate who attempts a coup d'état to steal the Speaker’s gavel with a majority of Democrats and only a handful of Republicans will never be accepted by Republican voters." – Lt. Gov. Dan Patrick
Although Texans continue to elect Republican majorities in the Texas House, a cabal of enough RINOs have joined all Democrats to elect a RINO speaker since 2009. These speakers, in turn, appoint Democrats to key committees thus blocking Republican priorities. Burrows is trying to continue this practice.
The only way Republicans should reach across the asile is to punch a Sh*tocrat in the mouth.
Proving, once again, that RINOs are worse than Democrats.
Burrows has been seeking support from Democrats “
The exact BS Phelan pulled.
Phelan kept his seat. They shouda voted in the democrat to show we’re not f—in’ around. Getting sick of this $hit.
Lobbyists be d@mned.
Yep, Burrows plan is to be Drunk Dade Phelan rev2. We don’t need minority party democrats chairing committees AGAIN.
This is also how Attorney General Paxton was impeached by Texas RINOS.
That immobilized the AG role in fighting Biden and radical federal Jacobins.
The groups was utterly demolished in the senate trial where accusers tried and failed to present any evidence of misconduct by Paxton.
“Proving, once again, that RINOs are worse than Democrats.”
How would electing Democrats in lieu of RINOs help Abbott get a conservative to be Texas House Speaker? Likewise, how effective would Abbott’s political threats against Democrats be?
One thing I know - if I were a RINO in Austin, I’d be scared shiiteless to have Abbott, and especially the Lt. Governor, Dan Patrick to get me primaried. If I were a Democrat, I wouldn’t care less.
A ping out to the Texas Ping list, founded by Windflier.
Well, the Austin branch politicians continue to pull Texas leftward.
Another special Texas winter edition for your perusal.
As always, please FReepmail me if you want on or off the Texas Ping list.
Blessings, and stay warm!
RINOs are Democrats who run as Republicans in order to get elected. Mayor Michael Bloomberg was the epitome of a RINO. They are an infiltration force for the Democrat party. RINOs take seats that would normally go to Republicans and then get reelected through the power of incumbency. They prevent Republican agendas (as currently seen in the Texas house).
John McCain (R-AZ) was a senator for 31 years. Better to have a Democrat in office and replace him after 6 years than a RINO for 31 years.
“Mayor Michael Bloomberg was the epitome of a RINO...RINOs take seats that would normally go to Republicans”
Bloomberg was mayor of NEW YORK CITY. You get much support here if you’re claiming that Republicans normally win that office.
McCain was a RINO and should have been PRIMARIED and thus replaced by another Republican. We need every damn seat we can get in the Senate, giving them up to a Democrat for 6 years, at a MINIMUM (remember Joe Manchin, he was there forever in a Deep Red state).
If you’re into handing seats to Democrats, for ANY reason, then you don’t belong on this site.
We’ve had this conversation before. I respect your opinion but you and I will never agree on this issue.
Bloomberg followed Rudy Giuliani as a Republican mayor of New York city. I used Bloomberg as an example because he’s the perfect RINO. He went from Democrat to Republican and then back to Democrat all for political expediency.
You know damn well that incumbents win their primaries over 90% of the time. It’s ridiculous to believe that McCain would have been beaten in the primaries.
The U.S. house and senate are less conservative now than they were 30 years ago. My intention is to move the Republican party further to the right. Reelecting RINOs doesn’t work. They need to be purged.
Please don’t tell me that I don’t belong on this site for having a different opinion than you. You support RINOs. I find that abhorrent.
“You know damn well that incumbents win their primaries over 90% of the time. It’s ridiculous to believe that McCain would have been beaten in the primaries.”
Tell that to Liz Cheney and a DOZEN RINOs in the Texas House. Nearly all of the Trump-Impeachment RINOs are also now GONE. And Murkowski only squeaked by rigging the voting.
This isn’t 20 or even 10 years ago. We don’t have to sacrifice the country to purge the GOP - we have other options, AND THEY WORK. Here in Texas, Ken Paxton just proved that, and at the national level Joni Ernst just made a fool of herself by being called out and having to flip to supporting Hegseth - so even the RINOs that won’t leave now have to SERIOUSLY look over their shoulders. By the way, how many Democrats support Hegseth - maybe Fetterman, maybe? Anyone else? I’m all ears. If people vote your way and replace RINOs with Democrats, Hegseth would be DOA and, no doubt, the same with Kash. People can draw their own conclusions regarding your motives here.
As to Bloomberg, look at the murder rate in NYC under Bloomberg - he did better than any other Republican in that city’s history, including Rudy. Maybe it’s me, but I prefer safe streets over just about anything else from a mayor, even HFCS in my soda is not as important to me...so I give Bloomberg a pass on that.
So, we can still disagree, but I’ll keep hitting back when you post stuff that demoralizes the base, whether intended or not.
“Tell that to Liz Cheney and a DOZEN RINOs in the Texas House. Nearly all of the Trump-Impeachment RINOs are also now GONE. And Murkowski only squeaked by rigging the voting.”
The 90 percent rule still applies. The list of RINO incumbents is long.
“We don’t have to sacrifice the country to purge the GOP”
Sometimes you have to cull the herd in order to save the herd. Kill off the lame, weak and diseased so that you’ll have a stronger, healthier herd that can thrive and grow.
“As to Bloomberg, look at the murder rate in NYC under Bloomberg - he did better than any other Republican in that city’s history, including Rudy.”
Rudy did the heavy lifting. Bloomberg inherited Giuliani’s policies. He later disavowed those policies when he ran for president.
“we can still disagree, but I’ll keep hitting back when you post stuff that demoralizes the base...”
People who continue to support RINOs are the ones who are demoralizing the base. People are tired of having to vote for ‘the lesser of two evils’. They’re tired of the Uniparty. They’re tired of the GOP establishment. They’re tired of RINOs.
We’ve tried it your way for decades. It doesn’t work. The status quo needs to change.
RINOs will continue to enable the Democrats. For example, the national debt is over 36 trillion dollars and yet the RINOs sent over a hundred billion of dollars to Ukraine. RINOs did that. Not conservatives. RINOs.
“The 90 percent rule still applies. The list of RINO incumbents is long.”
Well, if everyone to the Left to the Hitler is a RINO, then I agree with you. But if one defines them as people who are nasty to Trump and plot against him and vote for his removal, well that remaining list is getting VERY SHORT - even McConnell may soon be gone and others like Cornyn and Ernst are being forced to look over their shoulders and listen to footsteps behind them.
“People who continue to support RINOs are the ones who are demoralizing the base.”
Who’s supporting RINOs - I want them gone, in the Primaries. In the November Elections, I want the DEMOCRATS TO LOSE, regardless of who the Republican is. I realize that we disagree on that, so, like I said, others here can draw whatever conclusions they want from your position.
“Rudy did the heavy lifting. Bloomberg inherited Giuliani’s policies. He later disavowed those policies when he ran for president.”
Good enough for me - he kept the city safe when in office. What he did or said afterwards, I could care less.
“yet the RINOs sent over a hundred billion of dollars to Ukraine. RINOs did that. Not conservatives. RINOs”
I guess your definition of RINO is anyone to the Left of Hitler then, since 90% of the Republicans ALSO supported sending money and weapons to Ukraine, at least at the start, and tons of Republicans (the ones without brains) STILL support doing that. In the last vote, it was 31 SENATE REPUBLICANS supporting money to Ukraine.
I won’t impugn your motives, so I won’t conclude that you simply might want Republicans gone from the House and Senate so that the Democrats can run the country unimpeded, but others here just might...
I do prefer first and foremost, any endorsement Paxton is legally permitted to make given his AG position.
I wish a supporter of his could podcast, or in some manner or form indicate Paxton’s picks.
(Judges particularly, at circuit, state and district.)
I am left wondering how satisfied Ken is.. with the ‘24 election results on the judges.
