President-Elect, DeSantis Discuss Lara Trump for Senate

President-elect Donald Trump reportedly spoke to Florida GOP Gov. Ron DeSantis about daughter-in-law Lara Trump being named to fill the state's expectant vacant Senate seat.

Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Fla., has been nominated to be secretary of state in the incoming Trump administration, and he is expected to be confirmed by the Senate.

Once Rubio resigns from the chamber, DeSantis will be tasked with naming a replacement to serve until a special election in 2026.

Lara Trump, who is married to Eric Trump, has been mentioned as a potential contender to replace Rubio. She announced she will resign her role as co-chair of the Republican National Committee on Sunday.

The president-elect recently spoke to DeSantis and recommended Lara Trump, The Wall Street Journal reported Monday.

In her RNC role, the Lara Trump, 42, helped her father-in-law defeat Vice President Kamala Harris in the November election.

She previously explored running for Senate in her native North Carolina before moving to Florida about three years ago with her husband.

"It is something I would seriously consider," Lara Trump recently told The Associated Press about replacing Rubio in U.S. Senate.

Sen. Rick Scott, R-Fla., Elon Musk, and his mother, Maye Musk, are among people who have suggested Lara Trump for the Senate.

I think Rubio should stay put.

It is silly to risk the Republican Senate majority come 2027 to make Rubio Secretary of State.

It has been rumored that DeSantis was going to run for Rubio’s Senate seat after Governor, Would he ask Lara to be a placeholder for 2 years?

Hilarious to see RINOs and Dems saying Lara is “not qualified,” like the psycho drunk nutbag Amy Klochubar or former “soccer mom” Patty Murray were qualified.

Nepotism.

What is President Trump offering in return?

There's nothing in Florida's law preventing DeSantis himself from taking Rubio's seat.

Good politics to pick a Hispanic to replace Rubio even though we should not be doing identity politics.

Ron wants to get in Magas good graces. He doesn’t want to be Romney at the dinner table with Trump.
