The first significant Russian strategic defeat as a direct consequence of its full-scale invasion of Ukraine is the loss of its Mediterranean outpost. Vladimir Putin’s obsession with Ukraine has led Russia to channel virtually all its military forces and resources into the Ukrainian conflict.
Russia has suffered massive losses, stretching its military thin and making it increasingly difficult to defend the country’s geopolitical interests elsewhere.
Not only has the Kremlin pulled its military forces from vast stretches of Russia’s enormous territory and thrown them into the Ukrainian meat and metal grinder, but Moscow has also neglected other areas where the country has crucial strategic interests, especially Assad’s Syria. Given recent dramatic military events there, it can be argued that the fatal fate of Russia’s historic satellite state is directly linked to the Kremlin’s military adventure in Ukraine.
With the collapse of the Assad regime, Russia’s military foothold in Syria will vanish, with significant geopolitical consequences for the Kremlin. Particularly critical is the loss of Russia’s geostrategic maritime foothold in the eastern Mediterranean—a development with geopolitical ramifications far beyond the immediate geographical region.

A majority of the Russian people are now fedup with their sons being slaughterd in Putin's forever wars. As Trump said the other day, 600.000 Russian boys have died on the killing fields of Ukraine...
It's time for Russia to go home.
Hard to remember that this whole thing was Sweden’s fault...
Damned Vikings!
Putin and Erdogan may have made a deal for Russia to keep its bases in Syria.

"You lost another Naval Base?"
There were 9-11 million military deaths in WWI.
Wrap your brain around that....

You don’t know, being a foreigner and hiding out in Paris, but the American people feel the same. We’re tired of the endless wars too. We’re tired of nasty foreigners using us for their own ends and then stabbing us in the back and sneering at us while they’re doing it. The USA should go home too.
Current Russian order of battle in the entire Mediterranean consists of only six ships, so it isn’t much of a loss, really. It will be a long time before Russia prioritizes surface naval construction and when she does it will likely be more to replace Black Sea fleet losses (some 27 out of 80 so far) than further power projection in the Med. Just my $0.02.
The Russian fleet remains anchored short distance offshore and can return to port quite rapidly. We’ve seen no reports yet of the port being destroyed by USA, Israel, or anyone else. Same for the big airbase Russia uses in Syria. So, Let’s not count our chickens before they hatch
The first significant pile of horse plop in this article is the first sentence.
Last I checked, the Russian bases in Syria are still there.
There is talk of closing them down in the future, just like there is talk of things that might happen in the Super Bowl and the World Series every year.
You're raining on froggie's Skittle dreams.
Stalin laughs at your 600,000...

russia may make a deal with whomever is running syria to continue their lease on bases. Or as with Gibralter UK territory or gtmo they may just stay without permission.
This article is absurd. Russia hasn’t lost its base. The “rebels” aren’t even occupying the area yet. It is far too soon to see what Russia will workout with this new terror group master and financier, Erdogan (our “great NATO ally”).
CNN reporting Israel bombed Syrian Naval vessels in Port of Latakia. Looked like several at the bottom and a couple of “floaters.”
Oh, Frenchie, we so love it when you use language like “slaughtered”, and “killing fields”. Sadly, you’re nowhere close to a place where you could surrender and that likely grieves you greatly.
Great!
But the Russian ships may still be offshore ? I’m not so sure the Russians plan to really give up the port or the airfield. We will see
Really? I heard they made a deal with the terrorists.
Try 15-22 million.
“”””As Trump said the other day, 600.000 Russian boys have died on the killing fields of Ukraine...””””
That isn’t what he said and he meant casualties.
