On November 15, at the 22nd Guangzhou International Auto Show, Chinese EV maker XPeng unveiled its Huitian "Land Aircraft Carrier" and conducted its first public manned flight demonstration. The "Land Aircraft Carrier" is a modular flying car comprising a ground vehicle and an electric six-rotor flying apparatus. The ground "mothership" features a hybrid power system with a range of over 1,000 km and can charge the flying apparatus while in motion or stationary. The flying apparatus is equipped with autonomous capabilities, including one-click takeoff and landing, automatic route planning, and obstacle avoidance during flight. XPeng announced at the show that the "Land Aircraft Carrier" is scheduled for pre-sale starting in December 2024, with a price capped at 2 million yuan (approximately 276,000 USD).

ping!
Think of it as an ICE/electric hybrid helicopter.
A possibly great way to get from:
1. NYC<->Boston/DC
2. SF<->LA
3. Farragut Square <-> Dulles
Far better than a bullet train.
.
Sounds like a pretty good feature to have, eh?
“is it a marketing ploy?”
Note that it is not shown airborne.
bkmk
Only $250,000. It will pay for itself in 30 years.
“conducted its first public manned flight demonstration”
It did fly in public.
“Only $250,000”
Pickup trucks can run $100,000.
Well, I’ll give it credit for one thing....it’s not as ugly as the cyber truck.
“Pickup trucks can run $100,000”
Which is obscene to the point of almost being criminal in my mind.
But strongly suspect these stupid asking prices are gonna drop next year.
Note, watch the video
It isn’t worth it, in most cases. Unless you work out of the vehicle 12 hours/day and have it set up as your mobile office.
One heck of a tax write off if it’s used that way.

Xpeng Aeroht, the flying car subsidiary of Xpeng (NYSE: XPEV), secured new orders at a major airshow, marking a significant development for the business.
Xpeng Aeroht today announced that it has received pre-orders for 2008 units of its modular flying car, the Land Aircraft Carrier, at the 15th China International Aviation and Aerospace Exhibition, also known as Airshow China.
This is the world’s largest order to date in the flying car space, with 12 customers from the transportation, tourism, real estate, and technology sectors, Xpeng Aeroht said.
That vid is CGI from start to finish. Is there video of an actual flight?
I didn’t see a flying car.
I saw a car, with a trunk adapted to carry a tiny helicopter, with the helicopter really being a large drone capable of carrying 2 people.
So, when’s the ‘real’ flying car going to be built?
I watched the main vid and its not much better.
