San Francisco is closing its only safe parking site for homeless people living out of vehicles after three tumultuous years filled with legal disputes, code violations and extensive complaints from those living in and around the site.

City budget analysts in late 2023 reported at that time that “assuming an ongoing capacity of 35 vehicles per night, the cost per vehicle is approximately $140,000 per year, which is by far the most expensive homeless response intervention.”

$140,000 per year to park an RV. Give a liberal city a project and they will find a way to hose the taxpayer

I thought being exorbitantly expensive was the whole point. Where in this whole transaction is there a “customer” who wants value for money?

Do you think the homeless grow on trees? They have to pay them for their participation.

~$400 per night.

Cheaper to check in at the Hilton.

Get rid of the illegals and the homeless problem would vanish. In sanctuary cities landlords triple their rent because they know the govt will pay the rent for the illegals.

If the RATS can fleece that much per dead beat, no wonder there’s so many.

Earlier this year, San Francisco counted 1,444 people sleeping in vehicles, trailers and mobile homes, marking a 37% spike from two years prior, according to its biannual survey of homelessness.

My wife and I lived in a mobile home 50 years ago, but we didn't realize we were homeless. Someone should have told us.

I visit San Francisco often, there are homeless all over the state of California - the most whacked out ones I’ve seen are in SF - ranting and raving in the middle of the street at the top of their lungs, shooting up right on the sidewalk and tossing the needles right there, aggressive panhandling, urinating and defating in public spaces. They do it because they can and no one ever stops them, they have more rights than the citizens who pay for the sidewalks, streets, parks, etc.

So they “transition” the homeless to “permanent housing” - probably at $400,000 + per unit - to be destroyed completely within days b/c the drug and mental illness issue is not addressed.

Jail or locked down re-hab should be the only choice.

The real issue is who collected the $140k per year for supplying an unsafe, non-code parking space.
