US President-elect Donald Trump on Sunday said that Ukraine’s Volodymyr Zelenskyy was up for a deal to bring his country’s war with Russia to an end and called upon Vladimir Putin to take a step towards negotiation.
Stating that he knows Putin “well", Trump said that it is “his time to act" in ending the Russia-Ukraine war that has claimed hundreds of lives on both sides of the border.
His remarks came a day after he met Zelenskyy in Paris along with French President Emmanuel Macron who hosted three-way talks at the Elysee Palace on Saturday.
“Russia and Iran are in a weakened state right now, one because of Ukraine and a bad economy, the other because of Israel and its fighting success. Likewise, Zelenskyy and Ukraine would like to make a deal and stop the madness," Trump wrote on Truth Social.
“They have ridiculously lost 400,000 soldiers, and many more civilians. There should be an immediate ceasefire and negotiations should begin," he added.

I can only remember one time when some public comment by a national leader resulted in a peace deal. I think it was the president of Egypt, correct me if I’m wrong, Sadat who said something like, “I’ve never been invited to talk to Prime Minister Began.” I’m pretty sure I’ve got the particulars wrong but the overall is correct. Began immediately responded with an invitation and the Carter/Sadat/Began peace deal happened.
I mention this because for 99.999 percent of the time one leader saying something in the press urging another leader to do something is theater. In some cases, it’s almost like grade school taunting.
As far as the Ukraine war, both parties are so invested with ego, machismo and just regime security, that almost any move by any party is fraught with national and personal danger. It’s best done in private, in the dark and behind closed doors so as to give everyone an opportunity to spin whatever they are being forced to do in the best light for themselves.
I think it was Churchill (again, blast me if I’m wrong) who described Russian politics as dogs fighting under a blanket. The blanket moves this way and that and you hear growling, but you don’t know what’s going on.
It will be impossible for Putin to reject peace negotiations with President Trump.
“It will be impossible for Putin to reject peace negotiations with President Trump.”
What can Trump bring to the situation except for hot air?
What US weapons would change the course of the war?
Wunderwaffen didn’t change the course of WW2 for Hitler and they won’t work for Zelensky.
Teddy Roosevelt did so in 1905, in the case of the Japanese-Russian War.
He invited both sides to the USA where he persuaded the signing of the Treaty of Portsmouth. For this, he won the Nobel Peace Prize. He wrote:
“In my efforts I have been actuated by an earnest desire to stop bloodshed, not merely in the interest of humanity at large and in the interest of other countries, but especially in the interest of the Russian people for I like them and wish them well.”

Trump is this man.
“They lost hundreds of lives” “Russia lost 4000.000”. I guess that is new school math.
Sadat was murdered for his peace effort
Trump is not even President yet. Looks like the White House for now is in Mar a Lago.
President Trump received a rock star’s welcome in Paris at the Notre Dame ceremony yesterday.
Churchill quote:
btt
Don’t don’t President Trump.
Don’t doubt him, and don’t bad mouth him, unless you have taken a bullet to the rar for America.
Sadly for the zeepers, MIC, and government employees here the wars and endless spending to blow up people and things that do not matter to the USA will be ending, again.
Cutting off all military funding to Ukraine will end the war.
