Wonder if russia shot down assad’s plane ?
Putin simply followed the Biden/Harris Afghanistan withdrawal plan. Easy peasy.
“There should be an immediate ceasefire and negotiations should begin.”
Were it not for Biden and McConnell and the deep state ghouls, that would have happened many hundreds of thousands of deaths ago. Blood on their hands.
Read a report, leaving questions …. So assad has made out safely?
Assad fled to UAE on that plane.
moscow must have said no ?
Iran said no, too. Assad would get the Prigozhin treatment in Russia.
Russia’s interest in Syria had more to do with ecclesiastical politics than with geopolitics.
Damascus is the seat of the Patriarchate of Antioch and the Balamand University.
In the diaspora, Syrian and Lebanese Orthodox Christians first received their support and supervision from the (ore-Bolshevik) Russian Orthodox, and some of their more rigorous practices stem from that influence.
Russia was involved because they gained a warm water port, and because Syria was the birth place of the Russian Orthodox Church.
“Read a report, leaving questions …. So assad has made out safely?”
I read that Assad was in Russia over a week ago. I think it was his family leaving.
Remember, Damascus was not the center of his power, it never was. Western Syria (along the coast) is his stronghold.
He may be enlisting allies.
Makes me wonder if russia made a deal with rebels …..
Could be …… reports are fast and furious this day …..
Russia had at least two good reasons to be in Syria
First, Russia established a Mediterranean port that was out side the Turkish controlled outlet to the Black Sea.
Second, by providing air defense systems to Syria offering protection from the IAF and other military support, Russia had a fairly large presence in Syria. Russia was thereby able to suppress the construction of a pipeline across syria supplying gas to Europe.
Since there is no ongewr an effective russian Fleet in the Black Sea, the first doesn’t matter.
Mother Russia is now screwed because the Sunni takeover of Syria can permit the pipeline.
Erdogan screwed Putin big time.
Exactly. They’ve kept it going because it’s been lucrative for them and other assorted scumbags to do so.
Russia’s interest in Syria are completely commercial and military related. A gas pipeline across Syria to Europe would be devastating to Russia’s energy interests. Likewise their military base in Syria is uniquely positioned and valuable.
Makes me wonder if russia made a deal with rebels

No deal - they wish. Russia has little power to exert in Syria now. The rebels have given Russia 2 days to vacate their Tartus naval base.
