PALM SPRINGS, Calif. (KABC) -- At least 10 people were injured Saturday afternoon when a police officer crashed into a crowd at a holiday celebration in Palm Springs.
It happened just after 6 p.m. at the Palm Springs Festival of Lights Parade.
According to a statement issued by the city, the crash happened along the parade route.
Ten people, including the officer, were rushed to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries, the city said.
The officer reportedly lost control of his motorcycle while attempting a trick and severed his hand in the process, according to witnesses. The motorcycle continued moving into the crowd without him.

Reminds me of an accident I witnessed on I-57 in Illinois a number of years ago. Driving down the Interstate, I was creeping up to a motorcycle. It was going straight and true for several miles. Then it started to wobble, and then fell over. The sole rider slid into a guard rail, with the bike hitting said guard rail about 500 feet ahead of the rider.
I slowed down, and the rider got up and started walking toward what was left of his bike. No apparent injury, so I went on my way. This was before I carried a cell phone.
Didnt help when the announcer came on and said come on folks, give him a hand!
Sounds like the left hand didn’t know what the right hand was doing.
I guess he won’t do that again! What a stupid thing to do! I hope the injured people have a full recovery.
In a post-accident interview, the officer was quoted as saying “I just can’t put a finger on what caused the crash, just offhand.”
Shouldn’t he have been immediately placed under Arrest for Reckless Driving, Reckless Endangerment causing Injury or Death, ... among other crimes???
If a regular citizen that wasn’t wearing a magic blue costume did this, what would happen??
…
Ain’t it the truth…
Several decades ago the front wheel of my bike tangled with a deep pothole.
The bike abruptly halted all forward motion, but I did not.
I did my ‘Superman impression’ - went airborne over the handle bars.
Luckily nothing got ‘severed’, but I did wind up plowing along through the
gravel face down on my wrists.
A little bloodied, but far wiser after I took a while the ponder the age-old question :
“Have I learned anything worthwhile from this experience?”.

What you saw is called a tank slapper or a death wobble. If you go on YouTube and put that in you can see examples. It is scary. I’ve never had it happen fortunately
Just incredibly stupid for the policeman to be allowed to perform stunts in that venue.
Charge whoever authorized the stunt AND the stupid, arrogant rider.
One spectator is dead.
Negligent Homicide(?)
