Millions will lose health coverage if ACA subsidies expire: CBO

A new report released by the Congressional Budget Office (CBO) found that if the Affordable Care Act’s (ACA) extended subsidies are allowed to expire at the end of 2025, millions of people will become uninsured and premiums will rise.

Responding to the Senate Finance Committee, the CBO found that “not extending the credit will increase the number of people without health insurance and raise the average gross benchmark premiums for plans purchased through the marketplaces.”

The extended tax subsidies were first enacted in 2021 through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) and extended to the end of 2025 through the Inflation Reduction Act. The premium tax credits lower out-of-pocket costs for eligible households.

“Without a permanent extension, CBO estimates, the number of uninsured people will rise by 2.2 million in 2026, by 3.7 million in 2027, and by 3.8 million, on average, in each year over the 2026-2034 period,” the report states.

Well given the current events, it seems that many are none to happy with how they’re treated by corporate insurance.

*sigh* I don’t know the solution to fixing Us healthcare costs.

Wasn’t ACA the legislation that Nancy Pelosi “deemed passed” rather than let it go to a vote?

Dear ignorant liberals,
Not to worry! We’ll just fix the health care system that the hateful and arrogant person whom the ACA was named after and EVERYONE will be better off. EVERYONE. We will find a uniquely America fix that will make everyone jealous in the UK, Canada, and everywhere else in which government health care has been peddled.

Rest easy and learn.

“subsidies.” That’s a red flag right there.

Perhaps we should consider WHY healthcare is so expensive in the US.

It’s not just somewhat more, often it’s more expensive by orders of magnitude.

Outside of emergencies it would be less expensive to put patients on an airplane and fly them to the other side of the planet for procedures.

Yes. I’m trying to figure the downside.

It doesn’t seem to matter how much these “professionals” emulate Dr. Mengele.

Too many use the ER for anything and everything without cost to them. But those costs are borne by those that have insurance.

Therefore getting the illegals back home will take pressure of medical costs.

The other thing that can be done is for people to take better care of themselves. Many health problems can be avoided by better eating, better sleeping, exercise, and live with some kind of purpose in their life.

Finally, understand that health does not come from the end of a needle!

Not a total solution but that should help.

Perhaps there should have been a Federally insured catastrophic insurance with everything under 10,000 not insured.

And why are some of us paying subsidies for others?

We’re now onto something like a sixth-payer health insurance system, which is sure to be massively wasteful and expensive.

I have been saying the same thing for years. Imagine how cheap everyday health insurance would be if the insurance companies didn't have to pay for the catastrophic illnesses.

Family of 5 for $50 a month.

Obamacare ( ACA) needs to die. Trump must do a total overhaul, period.

Simplest solution;

Move all ELIGIBLE CITIZENS to Medicare or Medicaid and sunset the ACA.

Obamacare was designed to provide healthcare for illegal aliens, not American citizens. This fact alone makes it an illegal program.

Besides, they lied when passing the ACA.

Democrats claimed that there were 4 million people in America without health insurance.
Very cleverly phrased, because they didn’t say 4 million Americans without healthcare, they said 4 million people IN America. They were talking about illegal aliens, they just didn’t want to say this because they knew there would be immediate opposition.

Then they claimed it wasn’t a tax, yet when they argued the case at SCOTUS, the Obama lawyers claimed that it was a tax, and that in came under Congress’s power to levy a tax.
That’s why SCOTUS said it was legal.

And of course they lied when they said it would make healthcare more affordable, and premiums skyrocketed.

And “…you can keep your doctor…”, another massive lie.

Liars and thieves, all who voted for this ridiculous crap.

I’m old enough to remember when health care insurance was just to cover catastrophic illnesses or injuries.

Not every nickel and dime expense. And when we paid these expenses out of pocket, they were nickel and dime expenses. And our doctors didn’t have more accountants and lawyers on staff than medical professionals.

Most low IQ people and our youngsters don’t realize the ACA is Obamacare and how it caused our healthcare to skyrocket.

I was in a Dr office today and we discussed his profession. He stated that in his opinion it didn’t matter if a D or R was president, or if congress was dominated by one party. He said that Medicare payments went down 8% this year and going 2% next. Running your own practice was more difficult than the public realizes. No easy fixes. That means for costs, insurance or drug prices. He believes quality will continue to decrease.
