DeSantis power
The New York Post ^ | December 1, 2024 | Tim Phares

Daniel McCarthy is right that President-elect Donald Trump has rewritten the electoral map, but he is incorrect in saying that it was Trump who turned Florida into a reliably red bastion (“A New Political Map,” PostOpinion, Nov. 26).

In Trump’s first midterm, 2018, Republicans won the governorship by less than one percentage point.

Four years later, in 2022, Gov. Ron DeSantis was re-elected by about 20 points.

That happened while Trump was out of office and MAGA candidates were losing elsewhere.

It is DeSantis, the most effective and principled governor in America, who turned Florida reliably red.

He did so by winning battles for conservative principles and making life better in his state.

I wish every state had a governor like DeSantis.

If they did, the map would be even redder.

Florida moved decisively red while Trump was out of office.

The Democrats took the Florida ballot creation money from Florida in 2022, and used it to turn the 2022 Red Wave into The Red Ripple.

The other reason the Dems shifted the ballot creation money was to create a powerful primary challenger to The Trump in 2023-2024.

DeSantis is the most competent Governor in the country. Look at how he prepares for a major hurricane. He’s also taking on the woke crowd in the education system.

DeSantis is strong, capable and committed. One of the best Govs ever (and I live in a different “red” state).

Bein an excellent governor still ain’t bein a great president and leading a great nation and a great and historical political and societal movement.

Hopefully DeSantis will learn his lesson from the 2024 primary season and stay away from the support and money of the Deep State players, the Globalists, and the Bushies.

If he does, he will be a shoe-in eventually for President.

The Lockdown turned Florida Red.
The high costs will turn it Blue.
Folks are leaving because it’s no longer affordable.

Florida goes in cycles.
The High Water Mark for this cycle has passed.

And Florida Man will never be POTUS.
MAGA post PDJT will be just fine.

DeSantis has done a really great job down here in Florida. I was surprised that he made such a mess of his campaign for the presidency.

Agreed. If it wasn’t for the high housing prices and hot climate, I would try and move there. Alas, that heat is just too much to bear.

Do NOT ever forget that BUSH was a great governor also went to DC and was SWAMP in no time!! DeSantis DOES NOT have the PIT BULL personality to fight the DC SWAMP!! Great governors do not always make a great POTUS!! Trump has shown me that successful businessmen are best for the job, men who have had to FIGHT the stinking stronghold of government to make their businesses successful they will be the FIGHTERS!!

If Desantis was the one who turned Florida into a “reliably red bastion”, then why didn’t he win the Florida primary, or become the GOP Presidential nominee instead of President Trump?

No, but it's excellent preparation for being a great president - the kind of executive experience that being a member of Congress can't provide. Hopefully DeSantis learns from his 2024 campaign, gets better and goes into 2028 ready.

Jeb Bush was also a very good and popular governor in Florida. He won the governorship in 1998 with 55% of the vote and won reelection in 2002 with 56% of the vote. He eliminated the state intangible property tax, reduced the state government’s workforce by 11%. He was a proponent of school vouchers and charter schools. He ended affirmative action admissions programs at state universities. He eliminated civil service protection for 16,000 state employees, making it easier to fire poor performers. He also ended racial preferences in state contracting. He signed into law Florida’s “stand your ground” law.

DeSantis will be a contender for the nomination in 2028.

However, if Vance plays his cards right, and the 45th & 47th President backs his VP and doesn’t give Ron a national platform in his administration.(like Attorney General)

DeSantis will be fighting an uphill battle and won’t have enough delegates to become the nominee.

DeSantis and Scott played a large role in building up the FL GOP. Scott especially in aggressively working for the Puerto Rican vote.
