Denver's far-left mayor has walked back his threat to use his city's police department to stop federal immigration law enforcement.
As RedState previously reported, Mayor Mike Johnston told a local news outlet that there would be a "Tiananmen Square" moment if the incoming Trump administration moved into the city to deport illegal immigrants. He even went so far as to say he'd use Denver PD to set up checkpoints at "the county line," something I'm sure not too many officers were keen on being a part of.
“More than us having DPD stationed at the county line to keep them out, you would have 50,000 Denverites there,” Johnston said. “It’s like the Tiananmen Square moment with the rose and the gun, right?” You’d have every one of those Highland moms who came out for the migrants. And you do not want to mess with them.”
Notably, after those statements, new border czar Tom Homan didn't hold back, noting that Johnston would be arrested if he broke the law to interfere with federal authorities.
It seems that Johnston got the message because he's now singing a different tune. In a more recent interview, he had this to say.

I'd like Dem politicians to be arrested and charged under this.
LOL, yeah, sure Johnston, who claimed there would be 50,000 Denverites at the “county line” to block immigration officials.
Talk is cheap - you and what army Johnston? Maybe in your fevered imagination.
I was so hoping to see him go to jail.
“HOMAN: He’s willing to go to jail. I’m willing to put him in jail.”
The quote of the year as far as I’m concerned.
Typical progressive, lots of bluster until they have to actually put skin in the game.
Then maybe next time he’ll think twice before shooting his mouth off like a badass.
Progressives = commie trash = bullies.
Bullies always fold when confronted by someone who knows that inside they are weaklings and cowards.
9NEWS asked the mayor several times what his plan is on day one if federal forces or national guardsmen from other states show up in Colorado. He said right now there is no plan, but city leaders are hoping to come up with one before the inauguration in January.
Amidst this dispute, a startling report has claimed that Denver has spent $356 million of taxpayer dollars on migrants, despite rising discontent among locals who claim the surge in illegal migrants has crippled the city.
The nonpartisan Common Sense Institute (CSI), a research group devoted to safeguarding and advancing the US economy, released this report.
According to data, Johnston has spent $7,900 on each migrant in the city.
The massive inflow of migrants, which the CSI believes has seen about 45,000 enter the Colorado city since December 2022, has raised questions about Denver’s sanctuary city status.
Denver is going to need many new housekeepers fast. The immigrants work in family cleaning teams in the Denver area. They bring the babies along and clean during naps.
A metaphor for the cowardly, vacuous, worthless, immoral Left!
I'm sure Colorado's welfare and "disability" rolls have plenty of people who can vacuum and scrub toilets. It's astounding that that fact is NEVER brought up.
p
💯.

MAYOR Johnston & I agree on ONE THING: “HE IS WILLING TO GO TO JAIL-—AND I AM WILLING TO PUT HIM THERE:”.
WE HAVE NEEDED THESE kinds of action since 2008.
I would never need a housekeeper that badly.
Crack down on the easy cooperating red states first. Let the illegals run to the Rat sanctuary cities.
Cut off the highways, circle the cities, and turn them into prisons.
It seems to me that three charges (at least) should apply if state and local officials refuse to help the feds catch illegal immigrants: Obstruction of Justice, Harboring Fugitives, and Insurrection.
Convince me I'm wrong.
Sanctuary cities are against the law. Title 8 section 1324 makes it a federal felony to encourage illegals to live in america.
