Is it over for Bashar al-Assad? Islamist rebels seize Aleppo as Syria's dictator 'flees to Russia'

Islamist rebels have seized control of Aleppo and punched through into Hama city amid claims that Syria's dictator Bashar al-Assad has allegedly fled to Russia with his family.

Thousands of Syrian insurgents fanned out inside Aleppo in vehicles with improvised armor and pickups, deploying to landmarks such as the old citadel on Saturday, a day after they entered Syria's largest city facing little resistance from government troops.

Syria's armed forces said in a statement Saturday that to absorb the large attack on Aleppo and save lives, it has redeployed and is preparing for a counterattack.

The jihadist-led rebels seized Aleppo airport and dozens of nearby towns on Saturday after overrunning most of Aleppo, a war monitor said.

Damascus ally Moscow responded with its first air strikes on Aleppo since 2016 as the jihadists and their Turkish-backed allies pressed a lightning offensive they launched on Wednesday as a ceasefire took effect in neighbouring Lebanon.

Putin-ally Bashar al-Assad is said to have fled to Russia with his wife and children earlier this week, according to unconfirmed rumours.

If Assad has left, any non Muslims had better leave too.

You need a thug in charge in a Muslim country to keep the Muslims from killing infidels.

Assad is guilty of so many war atrocities, will the world demand his trial?

“Assad is guilty of so many war atrocities, will the world demand his trial?”

If you thought things were bad under Assad, watch what happens next. A Muslim journalist who imbedded with a couple of rebel groups said, “The difference between them is, one group wants to burn all non-Muslims in a cage. The other only wants to kill them.”

Israel Channel 12 (Leftist like them all except Channel 14) says IDF is preparing to strike ‘strategic weapons’ in Syria to prevent them being in the control of ‘rebels’.

Strategic weapons probably means ballistic missiles Iran intended to transfer to Hezbollah.

Time to flush the Jihadsts out of Lebanon and back into Syria.

Put them all in one place as much as possible.

The alawites are likely to be a prime target as I believe Assad is part of that group. Russia is likely to defend them for the access to the port and the mountain range to protect them. The Druze likely have thier mountains and hideouts to protect them.
However it may be premature as Aleppo is not Damascus where the bulk of the Syrian Army forces exist.

I have read that. And you are right. The Israelis are worried about what the Rebels might do with the Chemical Weapons that Assad has stored. You might even see Damascus become a ruinous heap, as foretold.

How did Assad not know? Looks like a bunch of people worked together on this.

BTW, biblical prophecy has no good news for Damascus’ long term future. Dust and rubble, forever.

OK I'm lost.

Of what sect is the current, Russia-backed Syrian gov't? Your map shows Damascus, Aleppo and the majority of Syria is Sunni, so of what sect are the "rebel insurgents"?

I can't tell who the good guys are. Are there any?

Maybe it's best for us and for Israel if we just let them annihilate each other to the last man.
