Several Oreshnik missiles equivalent to nuclear strike, do not harm environment — Putin
TASS ^ | 11/28/24 | Putin

ASTANA, November 28. /TASS/. The simultaneous use of several Oreshnik missiles is comparable in strength to a nuclear strike, but it does not contaminate the environment, Russian President Vladimir Putin said, answering journalists' questions.

"If you use several such systems in one strike at once - two, three, or four systems - it will be comparable in strength to a nuclear strike. But it is not nuclear because it is a) highly accurate and b) it is not equipped with a nuclear explosive device. It does not contaminate the environment. But it will be comparable in strength," Putin said.

The lefty neolibs gotta love this! Green nukes!

Putin said these warheads reach a temperature 4000 degrees Celsius as they are impacting. For that to be true, what are these warheads made of? Rearden Metal?

Sounds like an opposite approach to the Cold War NATO enhanced radiation “neutron bombs”...

"The simultaneous use of several Oreshnik missiles is comparable in strength to a nuclear strike"

Very effective weapon it is. Comparable to a nuclear strike it is not.

Is Idlib within range of the Oreshnik?

I would think that you could say this, in a very limited sense. The power achieved may be comparable to a nuclear warhead, though the energy released is significantly less. There may be hardened underground targets which you would need nuclear weapons to ordinarily reach, for instance, that instead can be reached in this way.

What appears to be key, and which Elon Musk has demonstrated so eloquently with his Space-X rockets, is that the world has changed in terms of control systems. Cheap microprocessors can provide highly accurate control to almost any type of weapon, or peaceful use system.

The Neutron bomb was helpful to Reagan because the fighting would be done in western Europe as the Russians crossed the boundaries, having a weapon that if needed could be effective against the millions of invaders but less damaging to the infrastructure and buildings of the victim nations was an improvement.

I was assured there was only one experimental one. This sounds like he’s pre-explaining a coming demonstration of several more.

Got the idea from Tony Stark’s “Jericho” Missile.

I think DC decided they could escalate all they cared to before Trump took over. I mean, what could the Russians do, resort to nukes?

Now the shoe is on the other foot. The Russians can use this super weapon with impunity. I mean, what’s NATO going to do, resort to nukes?

I think there’s stuff in Ukraine that needs to go (underground hardened munitions factories) and stuff that needs to be left untouched (nuclear reactors).

The break-up of the Soviet Union left a major unresolved mess - including NATO.

Some Ukraine schools have moved underground.

That’s true - IIRC, it was the public reaction (rather than actual utility of the weapon) that killed the program. Assuming they actually killed it; I’ve seen the government simply change a few names and proceed as originally planned...

“Canadian Lieutenant-Colonel, Kent Miller who oversaw the training of Ukrainians was successfully liquidaтed by the Russian AF in Ukraine.

This marks the highest ranked NATO officer dead in Ukraine.

According to NATO; he “suddenly died of medical complications”

Yesterday this guy died of the complication of not being underground deep enough. He was not the highest ranking NATO officer suddenly dying. Some Polish brigadier had the same Ukrainian medical malady 18 months ago.

Define not harmful to the environment because I think those in the impact area might disagree just a tad.

Anything can get to 4000°C with enough energy so if it’s imminently impacting, probably doesn’t matter much what it’s made of at that point.

Someone better be listening to what Putin is probably telegraphing, though.

The details will be interesting.

Just as an aside, thought from 2012, there's a free NASA e-book that tells how NASA engineers approached the issues of re-entry. You can downloaded it here:

Putin is telegraphing that he thinks he might have found a loophole. But a nuclear-strength attack may still beget a nuclear-strength response.
