Maine sues oil giants over climate change

Maine Attorney General Aaron Frey (D) this week announced a lawsuit against major oil companies and their top lobbying group, alleging they knowingly concealed the role of fossil fuels in climate change for decades.

Frey said Tuesday that defendants in the lawsuit include Exxon, Shell, Chevron, BP, Sunoco, and the American Petroleum Institute (API). In a nearly 200-page complaint, the state alleges the companies contributed to Maine’s financial liability by concealing knowledge of the link as far back as the 1960s.

Halt any and everything headed to Maine made with petrol products or delivered by transport using the same. May as well tear up the roads while at it. I really have a strong dislike for these assclowns.

This is what the people voted for. 🗳 Elections have consequences.

Maine is the ninth state to sue to hold oil companies responsible for the effects of climate change, none of which have gone to trial.

So why is he doing this?

They should be sued for contributing to climate change by their exhaling CO2.

Gee, I wonder how James D Irving feels about this suit.
JD Irving owns a big chuck of northern ME and most of the province of New Brunswick, CA. He also owns a petroleum refinery in St Johns, NB. Where they refine that petroleum and they ship it to South Portland, ME and Portsmouth, NH.

JD Irving then owns HUNDREDS of fuel stations in ME, NH, VT, MA and across eastern Canada. Those stations in New England get their distributed products from the ship terminal in South Portland.
I suspect Irving pays a very large amount of state and property taxes to the state of Maine.

I guess this jerk hasn’t figured out it gets REALLY cold without fuel. If I ran these big refineries, I’d shut them down and leave the state.

Politics. Maine is still pretty blue. Libbies need to take out their frustrations in the wake of their election shellacking.

"...contributed to Maine’s financial liability..."

So exactly how much has Maine spent in the name of 'climate change'?? $1.35?

The number one industry in Maine is tourism.
The number one export is Lobster.
Those lobster do not climb up out of the Atlantic ocean all by themselves. It requires boats that run on diesel fuel.

Fishing(lobster) is Maine’s second largest industry.

Maines third largest industry is FORESTRY. Timber that gets turned into lumber, paper and other wood fiber products.
Again, diesel fuel is the main fuel used to power the equipment to get those trees out of the forest.

All of those industries require petroleum to operate.
They do not run off of solar panels and windmills.

And every petroleum producing company should immediately HALT ALL SALES AND DELIVERIES to the entire State to mitigate any potential damages.

If this does go to trial, would it be an opportunity to adjudicate the claimed existence of climate change?

I’m imagining the attempts to meet the burden of proof. Decades of unfulfilled climate mayhem, testimony consisting of “well… it’s settled science”, graphs of climate variation naturally occurring over millennia, etc.

The wailing and gnashing of teeth would be fun to watch.

Cut off Maine from all “fossil fuel”. Immediately. No exceptions.

Pre-industrial Maine was a glorious time.
