Republican Senators should vote this nomination down. A co-sponsor of the Pro-Act as Labor Secretary? Absolutely not.

Republican Senators should vote this nomination down. A co-sponsor of the Pro-Act as Labor Secretary? Absolutely not.

...

The PRO Act makes it illegal to be an independent contractor.

Democrats want a union between every American worker and the government so it can inflict things like DEI on every single business/contractor.

...

The PRO act is one of the worst pieces of legislation ever conceived.

It is anti-opportunity. It would significantly drive up cost.

...

The only questions will be (a) when she walks it badk and (b) how far she walks it back and (c) whether enough GOP Senators will be satisfied with what she says.

...

They will have to do it with near unanimity, because Democrats will eagerly vote to confirm her.

...

The same with the treasury secretary, the surgeon general, the new head of the FDA. The list goes on.

...

100% agreed there. Unions are a cancer. Even if some of their members are MAGA, the whole vibe associated with unionism is socialism bordering on communism.

...

After seeing how well using Gaetz as a sacrifice worked, he’s throwing a few more terrible picks out there as cover to increase the chances other terrible picks like RFK Jr & Tulsi get through.

...

Dems will save her

I can see what Trump is going for here (something I couldn't say about his Surgeon General pick) - he's trying to build on the working-man coalition he's built up in his first term and now. Trump has single-handedly turned the Republican Party into the party of the working class, and that's a huge accomplishment - something the likes of Jeb Bush and Mitt Romney could never have done.

But cozying up to the Teamsters and going against individual entrepreneurship is problematic.

I don't see a problem with being both pro-worker and pro individual entrepreneurship. In a previous life, I worked for a wokester organization which was the poster child for why unions are sometimes necessary. They fired me so they could steal over $10,000 in earned vacation and leave time.

Of course, that was not their official excuse, but between accumulating too much earned time and not showing sufficient enthusiasm about their wokester agenda, I should've seen it coming.

Perhaps she was chosen because she knows where the bodies are buried, and is willing to tell all.

The problem is in being both pro individual entrepreneurship and pro-Teamsters.

Trump’s Labor Secretary pick joined the Dems to sponsor:

(1) Amnesty for illegal aliens.

(2) Forced unionization of private sector employees.

(3) opposition to school choice.

(4) expanded unionization of government employees.

One has to look past the words of purists and dig deeper. Lori was the first Republican woman to represent Oregon in the House according to wikipedia. Oregon. So there’s that. She was fighting to stay in the House and lost.

She may be fine as Labor Secretary. Dunno.

In the enthusiastic words of Sean Connery in the movie Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade - “we’ll find out”.

You are right, George. But evidently so called conservatives have lost any objectivity.

Chavez is not MAGA, never supported anything MAGA!
This is a terrible blunder.

The Teamsters is one of the most reasonable unions around. As fortunate would have it, five months to the day after leaving the employer from hell, I started a job as a temp in a union shop represented by the Teamsters. Three months later (at age 61), I was offered a full-time professional position based on the quality of my temp work.

I got a larger raise my first year with them than I had in the previous eight by the non-union company from hell. They had the very realistic attitude that they couldn't treat their people in professional positions any less than their rand and file workers.

Were there problems? Of course there were. Occasionally, they had to discharge one of the rank and file union members and there was a long process to do it. But these cases were rare, especially compared to the company from hell and were always for performance-based reasons, not butt-hurt by wokester management and HR puppets.

BTW, the company from hell actually had to hire TWO people to replace what I was doing. Other than getting screwed out of over $10K that I had earned, it was almost comical!

The lack of a STEM union is why almost every US tech work is an underpaid wanna be socialist from a 3rd world country. Why 65,000 H-1B visas are issued every year. It is insane.

THAT ALONE would DQ her, IMO.

I worked as an independent contractor for over 42 years-—doing Bookkeeping for small businesses that NEVER needed a Full time such employee.

I had to work under unions-—5 of them when younger—NEVER AGAIN.

Trump is doing his best in picking people that are even worse than the losers and backstabbers he picked in his first term.

He seems to not understand that people are policy!
