In a time when so much of modern media feels disconnected from enduring values, Volvo’s latest ad for the EX90 SUV stands as a beacon of what truly matters: life and family. The nearly four-minute commercial tells a moving story that begins with a simple yet profound moment—a man learning he is about to become a father.
From there, the ad follows the imagined journey of his child’s life, highlighting the pivotal role a parent plays in nurturing and protecting their family. With scenes of joy, curiosity, and togetherness, the commercial captures the universal beauty of family life.

I saw it earlier today and thought "how refreshing and sweet". I'm glad someone else took notice and wrote an article about it. This is the type of ad that actually might sell cars. Plus, it almost makes you tear up a bit.
You’d never known it was ad an for a car.
My dad had a Volvo. When I drove it I felt I was driving a tank.
“Crazy People”, right? And that ad was dead-perfect!
This may be one of those early urban myths, but I had heard that the earlier Volvos were designed to drop the engine down rather than straight into the driver in a head-on collision. While increasing driver and front passenger safety, this usually resulted in totally the vehicle. True or myth?
*totaling
As was their Jaguar ad.
This Volvo ad is similar to a Subaru ad from several years ago. In that one, a dad is giving his old Subaru to his daughter, who is off to college. He reminisces about her growing up, with that same Subaru in each scene.
The Volvo ad is much more sentimental, and at the same time, a little weird in that Volvo is patting itself on its back for not killing the young mother.
oxy and Chinese owned. Hard pass.
The last two cars I’ve purchased are Kia soul (yeah, I know) but then I used to own VW Bugs....
The Safety angle is good marketing these days
They played that commercial on Chicks On The Right this morning. It was a long feel-good ad.

Heard the same thing. Never doubted it.
We went for a Hyundai Genesis, also Korean, now that we’re old. Circular clocks, buttons for every separate thing instead of tap-tap panels. And lumbar passenger support. Definitely tank-like after sports cars. Pretty good, over all.
My second car (1973) was a used Volvo 142. For a car designed and built in Sweden, that car was useless in the Winter. Wouldn’t start, performed badly in the snows of upstate NY, inadequate heater. Just a waste of sheet metal.
My Dad’s 1970 Rover 2000 had something like that. He said the engine was mounted in rails that were angled down to force the engine under the car in a head-on.
Interesting. Whether the Volvos did this or not, seems it was a design that was utilized. Thanks.
