Why Pete Hegseth Is The Right Man To Run The Pentagon
The Federalist ^ | Chuck DeVore

Posted on 11/22/2024 5:43:41 AM PST by RoosterRedux

Hegseth’s critics often argue that he lacks the management credentials traditionally associated with the role of secretary of defense. However, this perspective fails to recognize the multidimensional nature of Hegseth’s career. Over 21 years of service in the Army and Army National Guard, he demonstrated battlefield leadership, earning two Bronze Stars for actions in Iraq and Afghanistan. His hands-on command experience, involving decisions in life-and-death situations, surpasses the theoretical and left-leaning academic military knowledge that some past secretaries brought to the role.

Additionally, Hegseth’s executive leadership as CEO of Concerned Veterans for America provides a critical counterpoint to claims of inexperience. During his tenure, he managed a $16 million budget and expanded the organization’s influence significantly, showcasing his ability to lead and grow complex institutions. This dual perspective — as a combat leader and as an executive — gives him a depth of understanding that uniquely prepares him for the demands of running the Pentagon.

...

Where Hegseth truly distinguishes himself is in his willingness to challenge the received wisdom of the status quo. Leaders who are too embedded in the system, or too comfortable with incrementalism, risk perpetuating inefficiencies that hinder the armed forces’ ability to respond to emerging threats. The People’s Republic of China won’t wait for us to get our act together on a leisurely timeline.

Hegseth’s record indicates that he would be unafraid to push for the reforms necessary to streamline military leadership and improve overall effectiveness. His focus on combat readiness and merit-based leadership is precisely the kind of warrior-thinking [needed]...

Hegseth’s nomination also represents a broader statement by President-elect Trump about his administration’s priorities. In nominating Hegseth, Trump has chosen someone who is unafraid to challenge the military-industrial complex and advocate for fundamental changes. Hegseth has attracted opposition because the opposition is afraid.

To me this is the most exciting appointment, it is going to take a radical and obsessed bull dog to gut the decay in the military culture and this guy seems to be wild enough to throw himself into the battle, a mere manager with some good ideas won’t make a dent.

The media typical reply to a Trump pick is they are dangerous and/or unqualified. I never heard a negative peep about any of biden’s picks.

What really set Miss Milly and the other Obama’s generals off during Trump’s first term was when he invited lower ranks to a meeting to find out what was really happening in A-stan. It was reported that Trump reamed the DEI generals out.

A family with an established business that have a son or daughter coming into the firm, after university they work in the corporation about 5-10 years and take the reins of the company. Dad retires at 55-60 and a new generation takes over.
My point is you need that fresh blood and energy, not old men fighting the last war or doing it the way things were done 20 years ago.

Just like some other important Republican picks. Some woman suddenly remembers Pete abused her but offers no real proof like Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to SCOTUS endured.

He has a lot of great skills and experience but I wonder if he has the ability to manage the direction of a Department that is split between military and civilian elements and if he has the ability and experience to direct the challenging world of designing, testing, procuring, fielding and maintaining thousands of weapons systems. I hope he does, it is a big challenge and way more complicated than just moving troops around a map.

Part of what scares people about Hegseth is what he might do AFTER he serves Trump. I’ve seen him talk education, for example, almost to the level of my understanding regarding the condition of it, throughout the country. Particularly, unlike some FReepers here, he fully understands that there is simply no little corner, of say, Tennessee that you can hide your family in, use the public schools, and expect your kids to be safe - he understands that the Left COMPLETELY controls education (particular public schools, but increasingly private too)...there is no place to hide for conservatives who simply want kids their kids to be left alone, rather than Groomed.

...and if Education is representative of his knowledge of other issues, then yes, the Deep State should have HUGE FEAR of him.
