Vivek Ramaswamy, Elon Musk's partner on the DOGE, or Department of Government Efficiency 18-month project, is known as an innovator, a disruptor, a loopy Silicon Valley visionary, a little manic and crazy. There are a lot of them like that over there.
Well, now that he's at President Trump's DOGE, he has come up with his wildest idea ever:
Making the federal workforce actually show up for work.
...
The problem has gotten bad.
According to a Daily Caller investigation last year, huge federal buildings on weekdays stood with empty parking lots, with the Department of Health and Human Services being one of the worst of them. At a congressional hearing at the time, Health and Human Services Secretary Xavier Becerra told GOP Sen. Bill Cassidy of Louisiana that he had no idea how many of the employees he supervises actually show up to work.
...
While there is a place for remote work in the workplace, we do know that many companies, even the most tecchie-modern of tech companies, such as Yahoo! found that huge numbers of remote workers tended to be less productive than workers at a single workplace where ideas are exchanged and workers can immediately interact with one another. Company brass there insisted that workers return to the office amid many protests.
We also know that huge numbers of workers can be laid off with no ill effects whatsoever, as was done by Musk at Twitter, laying off 80% of his workforce -- with nobody able to tell the difference among Twitter's users -- if anything, the product improved, and now the company has now begun to turn a profit.

Is Trump going to try this one weird trick?
I wonder whether the other team will claim such a move isn’t climate friendly.
Federal Employees HATE this one weird trick!
Public employees need to be ‘available’ for citizen query and/or interaction - somewhere the citizen can go to for help, redress or FTF if needed.
They can work from home - okay.....just make them publish their places for work-from-home and be available there should a citizen need to interact with them FTF. :0)
The system itself is the problem....fed gov employees are the way they are because the system allows it......trust me, after 31 years in the DoD I’ve seen it 1st hand.
Have them show up to fire them in person. It’s rude to fire by text unless it’s the SoS.
The “federal workforce” is really a welfare program and paid voting block.
Kind of a broad brush your painting with there my friend.
Are you not aware that a certain percentage of the federal workforce is made up of military veterans? Many of which have left pieces of their bodies AND minds in far away places so you and I can have the freedoms we enjoy and can also sleep peacefully every night.
You should think about that.
This is a true statement.
The system is designed to fail. And the reason is probably no more complicated than Dems buying a huge block of voters.
Possibly the fastest and cleanest way to get rid of 10-20% immediately.
They don’t show up x days out of y. That is their resignation.
Done.
No union issues, no severance issues.
No public opinion issues.
It’s a DOGEat Dog(e) world!
That’s fairly obvious.
Remember this? They found that about 300 paychecks were never picked up.
Any bets nonce he does this at any of the civilian three letter agencies?
And then there is the DoD, the CIA, the FBI ...
Work! From office. Well they might be there but actually doing something maybe a stretch.
When it ended, about 10% of the paychecks were never claimed. That couldn't possibly happen again, could it?
Does DOGE have a site or hotline for suggestions?
“Federal Employees HATE this one weird trick!”
That almost lost me a keyboard! ROFL!
I wonder how many people would quit if their jobs were moved WAAAAY outside DC?
Break up The Swamp and let it die on the vine!
