KYIV, Nov 21 (Reuters) - Russia launched an intercontinental ballistic missile from its southern Astrakhan region during a morning attack on Ukraine on Thursday, Kyiv's air force said, the first time Russia has used such a powerful, long-range missile during the war.
The strike comes after Ukraine used U.S. and British missiles to strike targets inside Russia this week, something Moscow had warned for months would be seen as a major escalation. The Russian attack targeted enterprises and critical infrastructure in the central-eastern city of Dnipro, the air force said, at a time of escalating moves in the 33-month-old war launched by Russia in Ukraine. It was unclear from the statement what the intercontinental ballistic missile targeted and whether it caused any damage. The missiles have a range of thousands of kilometres and can be used for delivering nuclear warheads, though they can also have conventional warheads. Ukrainian air defences shot down six Kh-101 cruise missiles during the attack. "In particular, an intercontinental ballistic missile was launched from the Astrakhan region of the Russian Federation," the air force said, detailing types of weapon used in the attack. It did not say what kind of intercontinental ballistic missile was fired.

Can’t tell from the article what happened.
There was more than one? They were shot down? All?
America is not the only country that has an inventory of aging missiles.
Perhaps a message being sent?
Ukraine’s military has claimed that overnight Russia launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) for the first time during the war.
Ukraine’s air force said the launch took place from the Astrakhan region of the Russian Federation, an area to the south-east of Vologograd, which borders on the Caspian Sea.
Ukraine said overnight attacks by Russia targeted “enterprises and critical infrastructure in the central-eastern city of Dnipro.”
The air force gave no details of any casualties or damage, or whether air defence had tackled the ICBM. Ukraine’s military said six Kh-101 cruise missiles were shot down. The claims have not been independently verified.
ICBMs have a range of thousands of kilometres, and can carry either conventional or nuclear payloads.
These missiles can strike all over western Europe.
Can we just avoid WW3 before January 6th?
Putin said he would be willing to talk peace as long as Trump is there. That was another story from yesterday.
Try going to UK papers to find out what’s going on as our MSM keeps Americans in the dark.
The only source for this story is the Ukraine military.
A large percent of stories using only this source are later shown to be false.
I guess it’s possible, but i won’t be surprised if it didn’t happen
It’s a bullshit article.
“The air force gave no details of any casualties or damage, or whether air defence had tackled the ICBM. Ukraine’s military said six Kh-101 cruise missiles were shot down. The claims have not been independently verified.”
This is how this sh*t starts. I don’t believe for a minute that Russia tossed one ICBM over there. Why would they?
I believe more that this is Operation Mockingbird CIA crapola again.
IF Putin wishes to send a message, then send a message.
Since the long range missiles we just sent caused no damage, he will do the same.
It looks like posturing before Trump comes in to negotiate a settlement.
Both sides, puffing up to gain some strategic advantage when the time comes.
In some ways, this might be good for Trump.
Trump never outwardly said this, but once the war started, he alluded that had he been in charge, he would have taken the war into Russia at the beginning.
In summary, I think all this is posturing before negotiations. We send long range missiles to an area where little to no damage is done.
I don’t think Putin would lob a single ICBM into KIEV. Think about it. No damage?
I say BS. We’re being trolled.
I agree. Re-read the article, and pretend that you know it was propaganda.
By who?
1. Russia
2. USA warmongers
3. Ukraine
My guess the article is propaganda by USA warmongers or Ukraine.
another Biden success story
“Why would they?”
Really?
Yes, really. Answer me Why Would He?
I don’t understand the message they’re trying to convey. Send one ICBM to Kiev? No damage? Does not make sense.
Sending several would send a message.
Finding a remote area in Ukraine, say 10-20 miles in diameter, and sending a tactical nuke that wipes out the entire landscape would send a message.
Again, I’m asking. Why?
The article is BS
German news says (quoting only from Ukraine) that one ballistic missile was launched, and 7 x Ch-101 cruise missiles were fired, with six intercepted. Beyond that, the Kremlin has yet to speak.
I don’t think the Russians will say anything....avoiding the admittance that they ‘missed’ the targets.
[It did not say what kind of intercontinental ballistic missile was fired.]
Oh, O.K......
> pretend that you know it was propaganda <
That’s probably a good initial position to take. Everyone on all sides of this Russia/Ukraine war is lying. Everyone.
George Carlin once said that his #1 rule is to not believe anything the government says. That rule applies to every government.
Hopefully Trump 2.0 will be able to sort this all out. If he can’t, I suppose no one can.
Well...the pic shows fires so it got something..
“Yes, really. Answer me Why Would He?”
Let me think... Warning and retaliation maybe?
Why does Little Kim send long range missiles toward Japan but lets them splash in the sea? Just for kicks? Of course Russia would return the favor with a warning. Just “ICBM” alone is a stern message whether it hits anything or not. We send them into space and blow them up from Vandenberg AFB as a global warning all the time. “You got long range missiles we got ICBMs”...
Just launching an ICBM is a serious warning even if it is not targeting anything. Why would they not? Biden’s crew just escalated why would they not escalate in return?
Yesterday, MarcusMaximus said there were rumors that Russia would attack Kyiv with an ICBM. Wrong city but I still wonder where that rumor came from.

what do you mean by missed?
Russia on Thursday launched an intercontinental ballistic missile toward Ukraine, officials in Kyiv said, but a Western official told ABC News that the attack did not appear to be an ICBM.
