Colorado has agreed to pay over $1.5 million after violating the First Amendment rights of a graphic designer who took her case to the United States Supreme Court.
The Court ruled in June that the state could not compel Lorie Smith and her design studio, 303 Creative, to create art that violates her religious beliefs. As a Christian, Smith believes that marriage should be between a man and a woman. Though she wanted to design wedding websites, Colorado’s discrimination laws would have required her to create same-sex wedding websites.
Smith, who was represented by lawyers from the Alliance Defending Freedom, asked the Supreme Court to say Colorado’s discrimination law violated her First Amendment rights. Her case followed that of Jack Phillips, a cake designer persecuted by LGBTQ activists in Colorado for over a decade for attempting to only design cakes consistent with his religious beliefs.
“After enduring Colorado’s censorship for nearly seven years, I’m incredibly grateful for the work of my attorneys at Alliance Defending Freedom to bring my case to victory,” Smith said in a statement on Tuesday. “As the Supreme Court said, I’m free to create art consistent with my beliefs without fear of Colorado punishing me anymore. This is a win not just for me but for all Americans—for those who share my beliefs and for those who hold different views.”

If homos took their request to a Muslim artist, they would be told no, and the courts would readily uphold their right to say no- do if their religious beleifs are to be honored, then it’s a no Brainer that Christian religious beleifs are to be upheld as well- but even without comparing it to muslim beleifs, it says so right in the constitution that religious beleifs are protected- freedom of religion, and that includes religious ethicsl beleifs!.
Praise God and ADF for this win!
“As a Christian”
So marriage between a man and a woman only started after the New Testament was published?
Absurd BS.
The ADF DESERVES a CHECK from us!!!
She’s speaking to her own beliefs being upheld, not excluding others.
Lighten up, Francis...
Love,
O2
That is not what she meant. But she arrived at her value system through Christianity, which also teaches the entire Hebrew Bible (the Old Testament) that stretches back more than 5,000 years, in which the God Jehovah communicates with Adam and Eve and Moses, among many others. The marriage of a man and a woman appears in the first book of that Bible, Genesis.
Yeah we all know that.
But the implication in the media is that ordinary marriage is a Christian aberration exclusive to that sect.
The truth is that monogamous marriage is ubiquitous on Earth and is found in virtually all successful cultures. Almost like nature’s God made it that way, huh?
Do you think that the Teutonic, Slavic, Scandinavian, Frankish, Helvetian, Brythonic, Celtic ethnicities were all wiggin’ out on group sex and pre-historic Mormon polygamy? Before Boniface showed up to set them straight?
And Asia? Were they completely off the map?
All successful human populations adopt monogamy and nuclear families. The unsuccessful ones...think “large continent south of the Mediterranean, East of the Atlantic”...still do stupid stuff like polygamy with the Big Man of the village being the possessor of most of the pride. IOW just like the animals around them.
And as far as marriage between same sexes is unheard of in anyone’s history. For the simple reason that it doesn’t result in children or a surviving nation, in addition to being disgusting as a matter of human nature to all but about 0.5% of the population.
So spare me the “explanations”. My point is that I refuse to let the Left compartmentalize marriage as some sort of Christian aberration, and everyone else is off the sex cliff. There are cases of that, but not in successful, surviving cultures.
People see what they want to see. As you have done here, so you could get a shot off at 1) Christianity, or 2) media. Hope it made you feel better. I'm not convinced.
