Is the attorney general nomination for Matt Gaetz in trouble? On the Republican Senate side, the man reportedly needs work to clinch 50 votes. The former Republican congressman is a lightning rod for controversy, with a reportedly damning ethics report looming overhead. House Republican leadership is trying to quash it, but we know it will leak, especially since a hacker supposedly obtained a copy this week.
Trump may have just pulled the most 4D chess move of his political career. https://t.co/Rbo0Egp8zR— Bonchie (@bonchieredstate) November 19, 2024
The New York Times reported that even President-elect Donald J. Trump concedes that Gaetz might not be confirmable:
In his private conversations over the past few days, President-elect Donald J. Trump has admitted that his besieged choice for attorney general, Matt Gaetz, has less than even odds of being confirmed by the Senate.
But Mr. Trump has shown no sign of withdrawing the nomination, which speaks volumes about his mind-set as he staffs his second administration. He is making calls on Mr. Gaetz’s behalf, and he remains confident that even if Mr. Gaetz does not make it, the standard for an acceptable candidate will have shifted so much that the Senate may simply approve his other nominees who have appalled much of Washington.
Mr. Trump’s choice to lead health and human services has made baseless claims about vaccines. His selection for defense secretary is a former Fox News host whose leadership experience has been questioned. His nominee for the director of national intelligence is a favorite of Russian state media.
“Donald Trump is a blunt-force instrument applying blunt-force trauma to the system,” said Stephen K. Bannon, Mr. Trump’s former chief strategist who remains close to him and was recently released from federal prison for defying a subpoena in the congressional investigation into the Jan. 6, 2021, attack on the Capitol.
[…]
Liam Donovan, a former National Republican Senatorial Committee aide, said that “we’re on a collision course between traditional senatorial prerogatives and the unique power dynamics of the Trump restoration.”
Now, as Mr. Trump prepares to take office for the second time, he is demonstrating how confident he is that the branches of government will bend even further to accommodate him.
He plans to test just how far he can go.
Yet, this morning, even with reports of a rocky confirmation, Trump is “all in” on Matt Gaetz:

Trump won the election. Let the man make his picks, vet them, and see what happens. The media is always going to be against whatever he does and whomever he selects for his administration. We won, they lost. Don’t let dying legacy media dictate who gets to lead us, especially given the wholly unqualified clowns we’ve suffered under for the past four years.

CNN's Manu Raju: "It's an investigation."
Graham: "And they didn't proceed forward."

I feel certain that Gaitz won’t pull a “Jeff Sessions” surrender.
Trump is all in and so should we. Stop repeating and analyzing fake news.
When the GOP wins a presidential election, the first thing the far left criminal DemonRATS do is get rid of their AG nomination. All part of their communist lawfare agenda set up by the Kenyan boy. They scared the crap out of Jeff Sessions and sent his ass running home like a red-headed stepchild. Now the RAT turd rollers are after Gaetz. The GOP must do everything possible to keep the RATS from getting him. Nobody ever said a peep about the Carny freaks Pedo Joe selected. How did Sammy Brinton, Rachel Levine, Mayorkass, Blinken, and the rest of the Biden administration every get by?
Me too.
I’m all in too.
When the time is right I will call my GOP Senators and my Congressman.
I don’t know what else I can do.

Oh, it’s those infamous “hackers” again, only this time they are not Iranian or Chinese, this time it is a mysterious “hacker” under the presumably fictitious name Altam Beezly, who has intruded into the files of a civil lawsuit filed by lawyers representing a Florida businessman tangentially tied to accusations against Attorney General nominee, Matt Gaetz.
As the story is told, “according to a person with knowledge of the activity,” there is transcript testimony from a woman who claims to have had sex with Matt Gaetz when she was 17-years-old. The DOJ previously looked into the accusations and never went further.
New York Times – […] The file of 24 exhibits is said to include sworn testimony by a woman who said that she had sex with Mr. Gaetz in 2017 when she was 17, as well as corroborating testimony by a second woman who said that she witnessed the encounter.
The information was downloaded by a person using the name Altam Beezley at 1:23 p.m. on Monday, according to the person, who was not authorized to speak publicly. A lawyer connected to the case sent an email to the address associated with Altam Beezley, only to be informed in an automated reply that the recipient does not exist.
The material does not appear to have been made public by the hacker. (read more)
Which begs the question, if the material has not been made public then how does the New York Times have any awareness of it?

you answered your own question.
I guess we’ll all find together out how this goes.

___________
Linda!!!!!!
Hardly knew ya had it inya!
I was lukewarm, but the Leftists’ hysterics are a good indication that he’s the right man for the job.
PLAN B:
DeSANTIS names Gaetz to fill Rubio’s slot in the SENATE.
He has done nothing wrong.
We need to start defending Gaetz!
The first time I saw this I made a copy. Nobody seems to understand the accusers are in jail or don't exist.
About Those Allegations Against Matt Gaetz
Some years ago, I heard that Matt Gaetz had been accused of having sex with an underage girl. Much later, I understood that the claim had turned out to be false and had been dropped. But now, following Gaetz’s nomination as Attorney General, it has reappeared in the guise of a House Ethics Committee investigation and attendant newspaper leaks. Headlines have been full of salacious references to sex with a 17-year-old. I wondered why that was ever a matter for criminal investigation, since in most states 17 would be above the age of consent. But the age of consent is 18 in Florida, where I take the incident supposedly occurred. So, how credible is the accusation? Mollie Hemingway has the most detailed explanation of the facts that I have seen, and the answer is: not credible at all. The source of the allegation is a jailbird named Joel Greenberg: The claims arose from Joel Greenberg, “one of the most corrupt Florida politicians of all time,” according to Florida reporter Marc Caputo, who is now with the anti-Trump media outlet The Bulwark. Among many things the former Seminole County tax collector admitted to as part of a wide-ranging case for which he is currently serving 11 years in prison was falsely accusing local political opponent Brian Beute of having sex with a minor, similar to the outlandish claim he made against Gaetz. Greenberg also reportedly later attempted to frame his own attorney with pornographic images of children. … According to the Washington Post, Greenberg admitted to “fabricating allegations against a schoolteacher who was running against him to be a tax collector. Greenberg had sent letters to the school falsely claiming the teacher had an inappropriate sexual relationship with a student — a similar allegation to the Gaetz case.” U.S. District Judge Gregory Presnell, appointed by President Bill Clinton, said Greenberg’s actions against that innocent victim were “downright evil.” We don’t know the identity of the woman, who of course is now of age. But she apparently is a prostitute, and it was Greenberg, not Gaetz, who was sleeping with her. The crime spree Greenberg was convicted of included charges related to his ongoing sexual relationship with the 17-year-old. He met her on a site for older men with money and younger women needing money who are prepared to have sex with older men. The practice matches “sugar daddies” with “sugar babies” and is considered a form of prostitution. … The lawsuit shows that Greenberg “became insistent” that Gaetz help him obtain a pardon for his various crimes. When he was repeatedly told that wouldn’t happen, Greenberg reportedly said he would seek vengeance on those who refused to help him during his time of need. It was at this point that Greenberg began claiming without evidence that Gaetz and a variety of other Republicans and local businessmen were involved in his criminal actions, the lawsuit says. Greenberg was paying the legal bills of Gaetz’s accuser. He allegedly lied about Gaetz to “reduce his own prison sentence,” according to the lawsuit. The latter claim was supported by a September letter from Gaetz to the House Ethics Committee. Gaetz revealed a letter from a jailhouse informant who shared a holding cell with Greenberg when Greenberg admitted “making stuff up about” Gaetz as part of a plan to lighten what could have been as much as a 27-year sentence in federal prison. More at the link. The bottom line is that it is easy to understand why DOJ dropped its investigation of Gaetz two years ago. It is also easy to understand why the Democrats are seizing on such a weak reed to attack the prospective Attorney General. In their current, desperate mode, any smear is good enough for them.
NSA is the “hacker”.
NYT is the “leaker”.
