WEST VIRGINIA — Former West Virginia Delegate Derrick Evans has formally announced his intention to run for West Virginia Senator Shelley Moore Capito’s seat in the U.S. Senate in the 2026 election.

In his candidacy announcement, he called Capito a RINO (Republican In Name Only), stating that she stayed silent during a “secret vote” for Senate Majority Leader John Thune.

Evans said that Thune is a career politician and that he is poised to delay or obstruct President Trump’s future cabinet appointments.

Evans has thrown his vote behind Matt Gaetz for Attorney General, stating, “he’s one of us.”

Evans was the only elected official to be arrested and serve time in federal prison for his participation in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.

The self-proclaimed J6 Patriot calls himself an America First Republican, believing in big government and strict immigration control, as well as being a pro-life supporter.

Evans previously ran for U.S. Congress in 2024, but lost the primary to Congresswoman Carol Miller.

This announcement is helpful to the Trump agenda. Now that Capito is being challenged from the right in a very conservative state with an election coming up, she may decide to march in lockstep with the America First movement to boost her re-election chances.

“Evans was the only elected official to be arrested and serve time in federal prison for his participation in the Jan. 6 riot at the U.S. Capitol.“

That, my Friend, is a badge of honor Mr. Evans should wear proudly.

“BTW...I watched and didn’t see ‘rioters’ Why is that word still used?”

They had to switch to that word because their pushing of the insurrectionist narrative failed. And “peaceful protestors” reserved for Democrats that are burning down buildings behind reporters.

I will work for Evans when he starts his campaign.
I loathe Capito. She is the very definition of a RINO.
She is a Susan Collins with a hillbilly draw.

Thune' s up in '26 too

Thune's up in '28. Cornyn's up in '26 but I doubt he runs. If he does Paxton will primary his ass.
