President-elect Donald Trump has officially named Elon Musk to head the newly created 'Department of Government Efficiency.'

Trump put out a press release Tuesday night saying that Musk will co-lead the 'Manhattan Project of our time' with former Republican presidential candidate Vivek Ramaswamy.

Republicans have long complained about government over-spending and Trump touted that DOGE will accomplish its goals by July 4, 2026.

'A smaller Government, with more efficiency and less bureaucracy, will be the perfect gift to America on the 250th Anniversary of The Declaration of Independence,' he wrote. 'I am confident they will succeed!'

Musk and Ramaswamy have become some of Trump's top allies in the tech bro community.

Great plan.

Vivek can be the spokesman with the media to detail the bloated government.

Elon can use X to do the same.

The bureaucrats will not know what hit them as they are FIRED!!!!!!

Does it take an act of congress to create a department?

It make work great during Trumps term, but when a democrat get in again then it will be quickly infiltrated.

The acronym/name is an “inside joke” by PDJT and Elon? “DOGE” is up big time in the last week (along with Bitcoin):

I don’t know how to accomplish this but could someone please get this suggestion to Elon Musk and/or Vivek Ramaswamy.

This is low hanging fruit to increase our security and govt efficiency!

The TSA is solely responsible for screening passengers and checked and carry-on baggage at 450+ U.S. airports.

From the beginning of Homeland Security development, this responsibility should have been turned over to the US Coast Guard. The Coast Guard is currently maritime, it’s military and it’s a multi-mission service. It already operates under the Department of Homeland Security.

Its maritime law enforcement mission can be expanded to aviation. Coast Guard is procedure & process oriented as well as military, therefore, lapses of judgment, decorum or ability by a Coast Guard screener can be reviewed & dealt with immediately. No TSA union related encumbrances.

According to what Trump said in the article..... the Department of Government Efficiency will provide advice and guidance from ‘outside of Government’, and will ‘partner with’ the White House and Office of Management & Budget to drive large scale structural reform.

yeah. i don’t see those two working well together.

It could happen.

but elon is very detail oriented and very engineering oriented.

all vivek wants to do is be the leader.

it could work if elon did the work and left vivek to be the front man. but I don’t see that happening either.

I do hope this will work, but ...

Doesn't anyone else see the great irony here of creating yet another federal department to fight for 'government efficiency' ?!?!

It probably should have been called the ‘Council of Government Efficiency’.

https://www.law.cornell.edu/constitution-conan/article-2/section-2/clause-2/creation-of-federal-offices

but the Congress may by Law vest the Appointment of such inferior Officers, as they think proper, in the President alone, in the Courts of Law, or in the Heads of Departments.

The appt ends july 4, 2026
