A week after the election, Pennsylvania's US Senate race remains a very close call.
Since last Tuesday, a lot has happened:
The AP projected McCormick as the winner, but Casey did not concede. Both candidates have released several statements.
On Friday, McCormick filed a lawsuit against the Philadelphia Board of Elections and three city commissioners over provisional ballots. The counting continues in Philadelphia and Allegheny County - and the margin remains razor thin.
US Senate: Bob Casey vs Dave McCormick
CURRENT TOTAL |
As of Tuesday morning, with 98% of the ballots counted, McCormick has 49% of the vote while Casey has 48.5%.
MARGIN |
That's just a 0.5% lead for McCormick. The vote total difference is 34,940. Please note - the numbers in the chart and interactive map below are updating automatically and may be more up to date as new ballots are tallied.
UNCOUNTED BALLOTS |
There are still uncounted provisional ballots. The exact number is not known. Election officials are reviewing those ballots to determine whether they meet the standards to be officially counted.
AUTOMATIC RECOUNT |
Any statewide race in Pennsylvania decided by 0.5% or less, is automatically recounted. At this point, if McCormick's margin holds, there would be an automatic recount.
Why did AP call the race?
Republican David McCormick cut into Democratic Sen. Bob Casey's support in Philadelphia and its populous suburbs and built leads in the more GOP-leaning parts of the state, foreclosing the incumbent's pathway to victory when The Associated Press called the race Thursday.
McCormick was leading by more than 30,000 votes when AP called the race at 4:09 p.m., and though there were an estimated 91,000 votes still outstanding at that time, there were not enough in areas supporting Casey for him to make up the difference.
McCormick didn't win in the Democratic-leaning city of Philadelphia. But like Republicans across the map and President-elect Donald Trump, he sliced significantly the support that Democrats got. For instance: Casey was winning the city with about 78% of the vote, but that was down 8 percentage points from six years ago.
McCormick was winning outright in every region of the state — from the Poconos and one-time coal towns to the central areas around Penn State University to Western Pennsylvania. He lost Philadelphia and its suburbs, but cut down the margins. In Bucks County, just north of Philadelphia, Casey was winning by less than 1 point; he carried the populous area by 6 points in 2018.
Note: The Associated Press contributed to this report.
McCormick’s in Senate orientation now, so I think the point’s moot.
It ain’t over until the RATs say they are done counting and they won.
Yet still, it is called. At least by any except "election deniers."
I thought Schumer was denying him the orientation..............
He was reminded of his statement a few days ago demanding unity and bipartisanship.
He just approved it
Whew!
A race being ‘called’ has no legal weight nor does a concession by a candidate. In the very end, the Senate itself has the last word on who ‘won’.
“To a Liberal, history started at breakfast this morning.” - Ann Coulter..................
They have a pic of him at orientation on Twitter!
In most counties, this is in conjunction with the canvassing board meeting and adding eligible ballots arriving from overseas (mostly military).
What is a “provisional ballot”?
Excuse the interruption, but here is a breaking news update:
Breaking 🚨
Judge Merchan delays ruling in Trump case
Andy McCarthy Fox News legal analyst says he would likely delay the case until (2029) due to Presidential immunity
“It ain’t over until the RATs say they are done counting and they won.”
Yes it all comes down to whether the difference is close enough to trigger an automatic recount with dem fraud.
Ballots that are not accepted for one reason or another at the polling stations due to lack of ID, wrong address, wrong precinct or wrong country, etc............
Being called by AP is not the same as being certified by the RINO PA Secretary of the Commonwealth - Philly Schmidt. Schmidt and PA governor Shapiro are buddies and I believe Schmidt is an anti-Trumper.
So, so tired of states like PA, AZ and CA not counting their ballots and certifying results in a timely manner!!!
is this true??????
So counting those is done to reject false, or invalid, ballots. If they are rejected, why are they counted?
They are held separately until they can be verified as legitimate or rejected, for whatever reason.
That when the fireworks begin...............
