Former North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) commander James Stavridis predicted on CNN's Smerconish on Saturday that the Russia-Ukraine war will end with Russian President Vladimir Putin taking 20 percent of Ukraine.
President-elect Donald Trump has previously said that if he were at the negotiating table with Putin and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, the war between the two Eastern European nations would end "within 24 hours."
Now that Trump won this year's presidential election against Vice President Kamala Harris, the Democratic nominee, the world will be looking to see how he handles the war.
Stavridis, a retired admiral who frequents TV networks to give his expertise on foreign affairs, told CNN's Michael Smerconish on Saturday that if Trump can end the Russia-Ukraine war in 24 hours, "I'll be the first one voting for his Nobel Peace Prize."

He’s closer to the truth than most of the Western Media, but still doesn’t get it. Ukraine, or what is left of it (if anything) will NEVER join NATO. That’s been the clear position of the Russian government from the start, and if the West had bothered to listen to them 1,000,000 or more Ukrainians wouldn’t be dead or injured today.
I don’t care if Ukraine joins NATO or not.
But it’s none of Russia’s business, or Putin’s business to put it more accurately.
One thing that I know about how it will end. And that is with a promise that Ukraine will not join NATO.
“But it’s none of Russia’s business, or Putin’s business to put it more accurately.”
No doubt you would say the same regarding Mexico if they decided to join the Warsaw Pact and open Soviet bases in on our Southern Border.
So tough, facts are facts, Ukraine will NEVER be in NATO, and Russia will make sure of that, Trump or not.
It will end in two ways — first slowly; then quickly.
You are saying Russia is Soviet Union and Putin is Stalin.
Good argument.
It would be nice if it were none of Ruusia’s business, but Russia’s national security considerations make it part of Russia’s business. That’s the reality of the situation.
Whatever, it’s all the same...
> that the Russia-Ukraine war will end with Russian President Vladimir Putin taking 20 percent of Ukraine <
That would be my guess also. But I’m not a general, and I never played one on TV.
If Putin were smart, he’d sweeten the deal to make Ukraine more receptive. Don’t just take that territory. Buy it with gold and natural gas, in a deal brokered by Trump.
It doesn’t even have to be a “fair” deal. Just offer enough for Ukraine to save face.
Disclaimer: I favor neither side. I just want this WW1-like carnage to stop before it gets out of hand.
“It would be nice if it were none of Ruusia’s business, but Russia’s national security considerations make it part of Russia’s business. That’s the reality of the situation.”
They do understand it - they’ve been here for over 2 years trying to get WW3 ignited, and now they’ll have to deal with the fact that there is NO WAY that Trump will do Ukraine any favors, much less start WW3. Their only hope is that Biden gets it started in the next 10 weeks.
Make a wide DMZ, withdraw all forces back 100 miles, stop the daily bloody slaughter, declare that UKR will not join NATO for 5-8 years, and we’ll re-visit at that point. Start rebuilding UKR and bury all the dead. Putin will eventually die.

That’s not an argument that it is Russia’s business unless you also agree it’s Ukraine’s business and Poland’s business and Germany’s business for etc… using the same national security argument.
Vladimir Putin is a strange way to spell Victoria Nuland but if that’s the way its spelled in the headline so be it.
But, but, I thought the little Ukie Global Homo said he would never trade
land for Peace.
His own people will eventually string him up.
I do make that argument.
“ Whatever, it’s all the same...”
That’s what I said.
Interesting you support the Soviet Union.
Or maybe not.
Fair enough, we are saying the same thing differently.
I say it’s none of any of their business what Ukraine decides to do.
You say everything is everyone’s business, which amounts to the same thing in real life.
