These California counties flipped from blue to Trump this year

Donald Trump is poised to regain power across America after winning all seven swing states and upping the Republican vote share in all but two states. That shift to the right was also reflected in San Francisco and California, despite both the city and the state giving the majority of their votes to Vice President Kamala Harris.

According to the current count, 10 of California’s 58 counties flipped from blue to red — choosing Joe Biden in 2020 and Trump in 2024. Here are the 10 counties that turned red, starting with the narrowest move right, with around 55% of the votes counted as of Thursday morning.

Orange County gave 49.2% of its vote to Trump and 48.2% to Harris, making it one of only two coastal counties in California that went red (the other being Del Norte County on the Oregon border), if the current lead holds. Once a Republican stronghold, which Ronald Reagan called “the place where good Republicans go before they die,” Orange County gave the majority of its votes to Hillary Clinton in 2016 and Joe Biden in 2020 but now appears to have shifted back to the right.

Riverside County in Southern California flipped to Trump, with a 49.7% to 48.2% margin.

Butte County, which voted for Trump in 2016 but Biden in 2020, currently has Trump winning 49.5% to 47.7%

A large swath of the Central Valley flipped from Biden to Trump this year, including San Joaquin County, which has him up 49.9% to 47.5%.

One of the hottest counties in California has warmed up to the Republicans: Home of Death Valley, Inyo County has Trump leading by 3 points, 50.2% to Harris’s 47.2%. The biggest county in America, San Bernardino, also flipped red with nearly a 5-point margin...

My state. Prayers for fair vote counting. Thank you LORD, for all these glorious ruby gems in the sea of blue ridiculousness.

Beautiful California. Trump, please help make California great again.

Look at the map. The state is like a fine cheese with mold (Dem votes) on its edges.

The nice thing about good cheese is that you can always scrape the mold off. Then you can enjoy it.

Looking at this year's election map of California, the coastal counties are still hopeless, but I'm encouraged by GOP performance in Southern California. It's like a return to the Brady Bunch and the 1970s.

California is gone for the foreseeable future if they could not get their acts together and elect better leadership even after the insanity of the last 4 years.

California is unimaginably bad.

So bad that Californians have lost touch reality and become numbed and normalized to the dysfunctional.

Left California at the start of the decline when it was just a nutty liberal place so that is my fixed point of reference.

Every time I go back it just gets worse and worse.

I mean, they have homeless people living in on the street in the bus stops in front of Disney Land. How can this even be happening?

San Bernadino looks like it just came out of the war in Ukraine with burned out buildings and refugee camps of people living in the streets.

There are parts of LA that actually look worse than Calcutta slums did back in the bad old days. Not exaggerating one bit on this.

I'm waiting for the inevitable cholera or typhoid epidemic.

We’ve visited Cali several times, and driven the from Oregon to Mexico. Tahoe, Death Valley, The Sierras, Yosemite, Sequoia, Coachella, San Diego, Greater LA - all of it.

Indescribable beauty and natural resources. Climate to die for.

I’ve long said we American’s have the wrong long-term strategy about Cali. Instead of fleeing to other states, we conservatives should be moving TO Cali and making the OTHER bastards flee.

I left California in 2005. I think my timing was right. I haven't been back with the exception of one layover at SFO. I had enough and voted with my feet.

An alternative take: they were also red in 2020. The Dems just couldn’t steal it this year.

I truly hope someone in Trump’s administration investigates 2020.

Counties switched but did the congressional districts switch?

I am sorry, but California, and its laws, prevent free and fair voting, IMHO.
No ID required, ballot harvesting, and motor voter just means massive ballot fraud. California is one party rule, and that party will devastate the treasury with payoffs until it collapses.

It’s a State right to run elections, says so in the Constitution. It’s limited when it prevents democracy/republic, which California has stepped across, again in my humble opinion.

The fortunate aspect of the electoral college being state based, is that the total ‘ballot’ count is irrelevant(otherwise known as popular vote). So the ballot fraud in one state doesn’t condemn the nation.

11 haven’t been decided yet (AP) but at this point the only one that is flipping is CA 47 (Orange County).

Kamala only won the states without voter ID. The contrast between red states with stringent ID laws and those without can no longer be ignored.

She suggested the state could turn red if Trump went to work on it.
