Keir Starmer denies he was too left-wing to get on with Donald Trump - as his Government faces more embarrassment over Labour MPs' controversial comments about the US president-elect

Sir Keir Starmer last night denied he was too left-wing to get on with Donald Trump as the Government faced more embarrassment over Labour MPs' previous comments about the returning President.

The Prime Minister insisted they had a positive phone call after this week's election and that the special relationship between the UK and US is more important than ever.

He was asked by reporters at the European Political Community summit in Hungary yesterday about claims that Mr Trump had privately described him as 'very left-wing', suggesting relations between the administrations would be strained.

Sir Keir replied: 'I had a very good meeting with President Elect Trump a few weeks ago when we had dinner in New York. It was very positive and constructive, as was the phone call we had last night.

'As I've said many, many times, the special relationship was forged in very difficult circumstances historically. In our joint view, it's more important today than it's ever been.'

In another attempt to build bridges, his deputy Angela Rayner spoke to incoming Vice President JD Vance - after it emerged she once described Mr Trump as an 'absolute buffoon' who has 'no place in the White House'.

Newly unearthed footage shows that during the pandemic, she told ITV: 'He's an absolute buffoon. He has no place in the White House. He's an embarrassment and he should be ashamed of himself, especially when thousands of Americans have died.'

Last night Ms Rayner wrote on Twitter/X: 'Good to speak to US Vice President-elect JD Vance as UK Deputy Prime Minister. We spoke about our plans for the future and how, working together, we build on the special relationship between our great countries.'

Earlier a Cabinet minister repeatedly refused to say if he thought Mr Trump had Nazi sympathies.

Good for Starmer and anyone who treats Trump and our country with respect.

Last term, Trump was treated better by the Saudis, Chinese, and Mexico’s prior President than by most people in D.C.

Only because Starmer needs Trump and he wants USA to stay in NATO.

I have come to the opinion that Great Britain should be replaced in the ecosystem with Israel. The UK is lost and they are electing crazies. We should replace GB in the five eyes with Israel.

We should withdraw from the five eyes. The whole thing seems Orwellian to me.

Even more reason why it’s good for Starmer to not behave like a fool with Trump Derangement. UK definitely needs US support.

He did some good things. For example he kicked Corbyn and worst of his cronies out of the party.

With all due respect, that seems short sighted. We need intel from the Aussie / Kiwie part of the globe. China is a real threat and we need a network for intel if nothing else.

Anyone who disrespects our country or our president should get free tactical services for moving troops to their borders from Russia and China or North Korea

Nailed it. ALL leftists despise us, and despise Trump. Don’t fall for their deceptions.

Not surprising, Labour is a POS, so are the Ass't Labourites who call themselves Tories.

Only because Starmer needs Trump and he wants USA to stay in NATO.

“Things have changed.”

NATO is not the problem. Some of the countries in NATO are the problem. Turkey is an example.

Actually, NATO is the problem. Time for those countries to grow up, leave the house, and get decent jobs. They’re like fat, 30 year old gamers living in the basement living in their pajamas and rocking neckbeards.

If we stay involved with GB we will have to support them updating and upgrading their many nuclear weapons which are soon to be in the hands of their muslim leaders. I think GB war hardware is dependent upon US technology, maintenance and parts or it will die. Time to let it die?

Australia and New Zealand are full-blown socialists and fascists now. I’d much, much rather have a titanium relationship with South Korea and Japan than AUS/NZ.

They are gone as a republic.

I don’t trust the other NATO countries with nuclear weapons. Angela Markel was a disaster for importing the young Moslem men.

Screw you and your special relationship.

The UK deep state was VERY instrumental in going after Trump. They were part of the Russia, Russia hoax. They spied on Trump and helped the democrats in every way, including trying to assassinate him.

The United Kingdom (the Deep State 10 Downing Street) cannot be trusted. They are connected at the hip with the Washington DC swamp. They are the enemy of American conservatives.

Donald Trump’s victory in America will energize England and other nations in Europe to throw out the fools.
