Republicans eye 53-seat Senate majority with Casey in trouble

Senate Republicans are feeling optimistic they’ll expand their majority to 53 seats next year as Sen. Bob Casey (D) is trailing Republican David McCormick in Pennsylvania by more than 50,000 votes with 95 percent of the vote counted.

They had a huge night Tuesday, picking up Sen. Joe Manchin’s (I) seat in West Virginia and knocking off third-term Sens. Sherrod Brown (D) and Jon Tester (D) by comfortable margins in Ohio and Montana, respectively, to guarantee a 52-seat Senate majority next year.

Now, Senate GOP strategists are feeling confident about defeating Casey, who has represented Pennsylvania in the Senate since 2006, as well.

“Pennsylvania is likely R,” a Senate GOP strategist said.

Election officials are still waiting to count about 50,000 ballots in Cambria County, a Republican stronghold, because of scanner malfunctions.

The Democrats and the MitchPublicans are still working hard on limiting the damage.

Michigan, Wisconsin, Nevada and Arizona should have been ours, too.

It will be so nice to marginalize Murkowski and Collins 👍

I’m wondering about the House races now. Nothing’s updating. Did they stop counting so that they can manufacture votes for the Dems?

Casey disgusted me because he brought shame and disgrace on his father’s name. Bib Casey Sr was a good and decent man. He was also the last pro-life Democrat of stature, shunned in his final years. His son betrayed him.

Well, they are still Republicans and it is still the Senate, even with 53 seats they probably won’t be able to get anything important done.

Coattails are good.... The MSM appears to be praying that the Republicans lose the House... Their prayers will hopefully go unanswered.

Getting more now will also help what I believe is a less-than-favorable slate of Senatorial elections in 2026.

I wouldn’t be surprised to see them go Indy or outright switch parties.

My take on Manchin is that although he claimed to be independent, he was really just leveraging his vote to get as much as he cold from Schummer. He reminds me of Jack Bruce singing that blues song, Politician:

I support the left
Though I'm leaning, leaning to the right
I support the left
Though I'm leaning to the right
But I'm just not there
When it's coming to a fight
Hey now, baby
Get into my big black car
Hey now, baby
Get into my big black car
I want to just show you
What my politics are

“Getting more now will also help what I believe is a less-than-favorable slate of Senatorial elections in 2026.”

As I already posted on another thread, it’s not that bad for ‘26 at all even figuring in anti-incumbent (anti-Trump) backlash a la 2018.

Maine (Collins) should be a loss to the Rats, but not much else. North Carolina (Tillis) could be a problem. Anything more would probably require another “blue wave”.

Pickup chances for the GOP in 2026 are not plentiful, but losing control should not be a great concern as things appear to stand now.

Please, stop. They’re the same ballots as were already tallied for President.

I get your point but getting a USSC justice or two is important stuff.
