~The murder of Peanut the Squirrel and Fred the Raccoon by the goons of New York State is an important and revealing story, not least because those who enjoy ill-treating animals smoothly advance to ill-treating people*. If you were not hitherto familiar with Peanut, here he is before the Department of Environmental Conservation SWAT team swooped in and offed him:

The dispatch of a poor blameless (and rabies-free) squirrel is also a blunt illustration of the limits of the desperate American reliance on "constitutionalism" and its attendant legal sophistries: There can be no remedy in law for the state's killing of Peanut and Fred. They are dead, and will stay dead. Even were Mark and Daniela Longo to get it to the US Supreme Court, that fact will not change - just as Mann vs Steyn, my own twelve-year lawsuit in the dank septic tank of the District of Columbia Superior Court, will not reach John Roberts and the gang until I am dead. As I used to say to Tucker, a republic of judges is a contradiction in terms.
It is additionally a too perfect illustration of what the late Sam Francis called "anarcho-tyranny", which you'll be getting a lot more of if the fellows who've been waggling the dead husk of a moth-eaten sock-puppet these last four years manage to pull it off a second time on Tuesday. Even as "migrants" and other protected classes are loosed upon the land unburdened by the law, you will be subject to ever more capricious micro-regulation in every aspect of your life.

They probably just wanted to ensure Peanut and Fred vote Diddycrat this cycle.
Francis's term "anarcho-tyranny" refers to armed dictatorship without rule of law, or a Hegelian synthesis when the state tyrannically or oppressively regulates citizens' lives yet is unable or unwilling to enforce fundamental protective law. Commentators have invoked the term in reference to situations when governments focus on weapon confiscation instead of stopping looters.
That does seems to be where we are today. We are, on paper, a republic. But there is no Rule of Law. It's just Rule of Men, and those men are very bad.
What they did to Peanut, The Squirrel, they’d giddily do to us IF they thought they could get away with it without getting their arses completely shot off. There’s a reason the communist basstids always come for the guns.....cowardism.
And they are infested in every gov’t office & court. How do we rid ourselves of them?
You saw an example of anarcho-tyranny in the very different treatment of J6 protestors vs BLM and Antifa rioters.
It means people are punished according to how the regime likes them or not.
No doubt.
They may even give it a go if they can’t cheat their way through this election.
Remember, in 2020 Obama and Pelosi threatened to use the military to remove Trump. I firmly believe that was on the table as their plan B. But their plan A worked that time.
Anonymous government employee goons are the new fascists. At it’s least it is the sneer they give you when you walk into their office and “interrupt” them. Further along, it is murdering your pets. Eventually it might well be you. Pathetic and disgusting. Eliminate careers in government. Eliminate those employed there who act this way.
Eliminate as much government as possible.
Devolve as much of what’s left as possible to the most local level possible.
Steyn really has nothing but contempt for the United States constitution. I guess his take on it is that it relies on the willingness of citizens to abide by its precepts and contains nothing, in and of itself, that can enforce compliance with its terms. But of course, that’s the way it is with any set of rules that are meant to govern human conduct.
No, he doesn’t have contempt for the constitution. He is angry that we aren’t using it. For years we’ve had judges who make law instead of applying it. We have bureaucracies that make laws instead of going back to congress for guidance. We have a congress that doesn’t want to be responsible, so their voters don’t hold it against them.
No one gets punished for abusing us through not upholding our constitution. And we’re on the verge of losing it entirely. God help this country!
I don’t know if this is true, but someone tweeted that woman who contacted NY animal control was mad P’nut had more Instagram followers than her:

If he doesn't, he's making a very good pretense that he does.
He pretty regularly says it doesn’t matter if you have the best constitution in the world if you don’t use it. We are no longer using ours. And that has to change.
It hardly takes a pundit of Steyn's calibre to figure that out. And he never qualifies his remarks. He verbally pisses on the Constitution every chance he gets. For me, it's very off-putting.
