Interesting
I continue to say that it sounds like a course in the Classics department. “Yay, I’m taking GreekIV and LatinX this semester!”
They want to be gender neutral, instead of Latino. Might offend them with all the pronoun business, etc.
Latinx never took off. I doubt many Hispanics ever hear this word. Hispanics don’t get so hung up on themselves as blacks. Trump getting major support from them. At this point 50% must be against Bidens open borders. Because it hits them economically and in deterioration of their neighborhoods.
Exactly.
Languages with their roots in certain parts of Europe have masculine and feminine words, masculine and feminine pronouns, masculine and feminine definite articles.
They are rejecting the woke rebranding; it is a huge insult to their heritage.
I think it's beyond that.
I've heard it's because it angers them that these illegals waltz into the country ILLEGALLY and get treated like royalty.
And it smear them as a whole.
When people see them who are LEGAL immigrants and have earned their citizenship, all people think it *Hispanic* = *Must be illegal*.
“Latinx never took off.”
.
.
I like the way Biden pronounced it as, “Lat-tinks”.
I’d use “Lat-tinks” to “rub it in”, but that’s just me...
“Hispanics overwhelmingly!”
.
.
“Hispanics” includes those Americans of Portuguese lineage—of which, there are MANY!
Actually don’t try that on the Portuguese. Their epic is the Lusitanians. They see themselves as different and unique and are proud of it.
Os Lusiados in Portuguese.
Comunidad Hispana, Hispanos, Espanoles, even Castillianos (that is loaded, could be high praise or put down, depending).
Sometimes Latinos. But NEVER Latinx.
Do you want to be called Amerinx? Or Yanx?
Yeah, because we must not blame suckish Democratic policies.
I heard that 90 %+ hate “Latinx”, but most are ok with .”Hispanic”,or”Latino“”
Yes, I was warned not to use Spanish in Portugal. Better English or anything else.
Written Spanish and Portuguese are very close, but they pronounce it differently. And they do not like each other.
Funny - I saw somewhere there sign in Portuguese, English, French, German, Italian, Russian, maybe more, but NOT in Spanish! When asked why, they just waved off - THEY (disparaging accent) understand!
I heard that 90 %+ hate “Latinx”, but most are ok with .”Hispanic”,or”Latino“”
++++++++++
Of course they hate it. Another example of our “too cool and too hip” projecting their value system on others. As pointed out by others the masculine and feminine are part of the language and culture. Some folks don’t like it when you hi-jack their values and cultural norms.
In my case it would be Swenx or Swedix, and no thanks!
😁🤪
It’s a stupid term. The people who came up with it are, therefore, stupid.
“You are supposed to be offended by someone assuming your gender”
Stupid.
I’ve heard Ibero-American to refer to someone with heritage in the Iberian Peninsula.
