As usual FR was ahead of the curve.

That’s just great.
I would have never thought about apps as a source of giving up a VIP’s location.
But I’m not trained and paid to think of it!!
Jerks
You would think the Secret Service would have its own confidential app. They shouldn’t even need to use a commercial product to jam full of their private information.
Unbelievable.
More tech stupidity.
The gains from this garbage is minimal, and the downside is really huge.
They can’t work out and stay fit without an app? How did anyone do it before?
Reminder - that’s a tracking device most of you carry with you darn near everywhere.
to record their activities and share their workouts with a community.
Why? Why do such a thing to start with?
Next, how do they know the agents names to track them this way?
Wonder what other apps could be used the same way...
I’m trying to do both again and no apps.
Isn’t this a revelation that has been known for a couple or few years and was talked about before about special ops GIs?
Yes. A few years ago they released a “heat map” of workouts. It ended up showing a guard path in the middle of nowhere Africa where we “didn’t have troops.”
The article flood about this was in 2018 and China was warning its military in 2015.

Strava Fitness App Can Reveal Military Sites, Analysts Say

Zooming in on one of the larger bases clearly reveals its internal layout, as mapped out by the tracked jogging routes of numerous soldiers. The base itself is not visible on the satellite views of commercial providers such as Google Maps or Apple’s Maps, yet it can be clearly seen through Strava.

Is this the same one that allowed our Special Operators in the Middle East to be tracked while they worked out?
One might think that connected devices would be disconnected when the staff is working. I mean, a local high school puts the kids cel phones in faraday boxes during the school day—I guess it would be tough to ask adults to not “text” at work.
I’m just an old gym rat, but WHY IN THE HELL would I want/need to use a fitness tracking app to SHARE my workouts with a community.
My Fatbit tracks my workouts for MY USE, not to brag to a bunch of narcissistic dweebs.
Do I get a “participation trophy” if I share enough personal info?
Those companies that want you to use their app is just to track you ?
Pretty much. They sell your data to other companies.
Me and physical fitness never really went in the same sentence but I’d assume not advertise.
At times a personal trainer would probably do me the most good.

People are so vain.
They want you to pat them on the back for how many steps they took today.
I lift and keep track of everything in my head.
I can’t believe the secret service would let Biden or Trump walk around some of these apps on their devices. Perhaps it’s not up to them, but I remember back when we were deploying military to deal with ISIL that our people were being told to limit the kinds of apps they are using because they can be used to track you. It’s not like this is a new thing.
Hoe ‘bout tattoos? Do you ever get the urge to go get a tattoo after leaving the gym?
Never in this life will I get one.
