Emily Reeve and her husband usually spend Thanksgiving in Hawaii, Florida or Disneyland, but not this year.
“I have a toddler now and I’m worried about being in a potentially volatile situation should we be traveling post-election,” said Reeve, 32.
The couple doesn’t have family near their home in Portland, Oregon, so they like to skip town for the November holiday. But they say they’re staying put this time to avoid getting caught in an airport or a popular destination “and suddenly facing riots or looting, etc., because the people in the area aren’t happy with the election outcome.”
Anxiety around the 2024 vote is causing some consumers to rethink where, when and with whom to travel, industry experts and travel agents say. Federal authorities, meanwhile, say their security procedures are sound heading into Election Day, Nov. 5.
Worries about traveling aside, some people are anxious about what might happen when they finally meet up with relatives.
Only about 22% of travelers expect that politics could spark conflict during family get-togethers this year, according to a recent survey by the tourism market research firm Future Partners. But that rate rises to around 38% of Gen Z and 29% of millennial travelers, compared with just 11% of Baby Boomers.

Double win.
1. Disney gets less revenue.
2. An easily triggered Oregonian liberal is not happy.
Corrected title: “Election anxiety is scrambling NBC employees’ travel plans”
You're concerned about post-election unrest... so you're staying in Portland? Okay...
Probably staying home because they’ve been put on alert by their ANTIFA cell leader.
Usually their side causing the issues.
The only rioting will be by Liberals WHEN Trump wins. Name me one time that Republicans rioted in the streets and looted the stores after they lost a Presidential election...I’m waiting...
Hell, Republicans don’t even MARCH in the streets after losing a Presidential election.
You’re concerned about post-election unrest... so you’re staying

Perhaps they should rent a hotel room in downtown Portland just to be on the safe side
Our election result anxiety is causing hubby and I to HAVE NO travel plans. We expect violence once Trump is elected so we’ve prepared so we will not have to leave home for 2 weeks should that be necessary.
The temper tantrum in Oakland after Trump’s 2016 win lasted through the following weekend and then pretty much died out. The face-pierced, purple-haired crowd got bored after a few days of blocking traffic and destroying things.
I was living and working just south of there then and we weren’t affected by it.
smart!!!....The next TEN days are going to be the most UNCERTAIN TEN days in history!!..
My rest and hope is in GOD alone!!!!
Not exactly travel related, but our kid will be working from home all week during election week. Approved by the company. This will keep them away from co-workers because, regardless of who wins, several someones are going to be unhappy and make life miserable for everyone else. The emails at home will be bad enough.
I’ve decided against a post-election cruise out of Ft. L. Nov. 10. Go ahead Take my place. I expect a victory but why hang out with a few celebrities?
The only thing they need to worry about in Portland is liberals living in Portland.
The protests the left did in Portland in ‘16 were city wide.
Many Trump supporting inner city dwellers will fight back this time and put that 💩 down.
They have their own family now. They should have Thanksgiving at home.
My wife was supposed to travel for a work meeting the entire week of the election. The city she was traveling to is riot prone to say the least or at least one of its suburbs (rhymes with shmurgeson). Found out that the meetings are canceled which is a giant relief. We are both worried that there is a huge potential for things to get unpleasantly weird in that time frame. We will be comfortably hunkered in to our house in our little town hoping and praying that the craziness stays away. Voting early next week to do our part to prevent the “blue dot” in the middle of the country which is our district.
3. Their toddler isn’t exposed to Dusney grooming.
It's not going to change out plans but then again, we live in a no nonsense state.
When BLM tried to pull their rioting cr@p in Manchester, the police promptly arrested all involved. That, along with the armed escort of openly carrying Granite Staters who were chatting with the cops at the end of the march, put down that nonsense pretty darn quick.
And I'll bet more people than ever are carrying these days. Someone tries something here, they're not likely to survive it.
I'd actually be more concerned with Christmas and until Inauguration Day, but then we're in the teeth of winter here and probably not going much of anywhere anyways.
We'll be well prepped and able to hunker down for a while just like every winter.
They live in Portland which probably accounts for their uncalled for fear of going on vacation for Thanksgiving, a fear absorbed from where they are and the people they live among, shell shock.
My guess is that the places they normally go, Hawaii, Florida, and Disneyland will still be safe for the upper class people who can afford that annual visit.
