United States Spending on Israel’s Military Operations and Related U.S. Operations in the Region, October 7, 2023-September 30, 2024 [$23 Billion for Israel]
Watson Institute for International & Public Affairs, Brown University ^

Posted on 10/24/2024 2:43:08 PM PDT by Angelino97

U.S. spending on Israel’s military operations and related U.S operations in the region total at least $22.76 billion and counting. This estimate is conservative; while it includes approved security assistance funding since October 7, 2023, supplemental funding for regional operations, and an estimated additional cost of operations, it does not include any other economic costs.

This figure includes the $17.9 billion the U.S. government has approved in security assistance for Israeli military operations in Gaza and elsewhere since October 7 – substantially more than in any other year since the U.S. began granting military aid to Israel in 1959. Yet the report describes how this is only a partial amount of the U.S. financial support provided during this war.

Related U.S. military operations in the broader region since October 7 are part of the fuller picture. In particular, the U.S. Navy has significantly scaled up its defensive and offensive operations against Houthi militants in Yemen, which the Houthis claim is related to Israel’s war in Gaza. Hostilities have escalated to become the most sustained military campaign by U.S. forces since the 2016-2019 air war against ISIS in Iraq and Syria. U.S. operations in the region, including in Yemen, have already cost the U.S. government $4.86 billion (included in the overall figure, above, of $22.76 billion).

This Houthi-related conflict has also cost the maritime trade an additional $2.1 billion, because shippers have been forced to divert vessels or pay exorbitant insurance fees. U.S. consumers may experience paying higher prices for goods as a result.

Some will complain, "What about Ukraine!"

Well sure, we shouldn't be giving money to Ukraine either.

Supporting Israel is a bread and butter conservative staple.

Supporting the Ukraine is not.

That’s way too much. Time to seriously reduce it.

Beats the hell out of fighting Jihadis in our streets, which is what Iran promises after Israel is defeated.

Supporting Israel is a bread and butter conservative staple.

Neoconservatism has defined conservatism since the 1980s, and began taking over with the establishment of National Review.

And yes, supporting Israel has long been Neoconservative staple. So too open immigration and free trade.

MAGA is supposed to trash Neconservative staples, and return to a more traditional, pre-WW 2, pre-global empire, America First conservatism. Immigration restrictions, protectionist trade policies, and no foreign aid.

Beats the hell out of fighting Jihadis in our streets,

We're already fighting Jihadis in the streets.

Our interference in the Mideast only drives more of their refugees here, and makes them hate us more.

The US gave Iran over 70 Billion under Obama and Biden. We have also allowed Iran to conduct billions more in oil trade each year. The US funded Iran and its proxies. We also sent the Palestinians over a billion each year and didn’t lift a finger when peacekeepers in the Sinai let Hamas and peacekeepers in Lebanon allowed Hizbullah prepare for war.

The Israelis have appropriated about a billion dollars worth of weapons and munitions, why don’t they sell them to the US for a change? Maybe they can use them for Ukraine?

Did the US "give" Iran 70 billion, or only unfreeze their assets?

Fusion Conservatives support Israel because it is in our national interest to keep the Arabs divided, Islamist Sunnis and Shia divided, Al Qaeda and ISIS destroyed, the Soviets/Russians out, Chinese out, and Petrodollar in.

"Did the US "give" Iran 70 billion, or only unfreeze their assets?"

That money wasn't the assets of the current radical government in power. The assets were paid by the government of the Shah of Iran for military equipment that wasn't delivered because the radicals overthrew the Shah, attacked the American embassy and took hostages. None of those in power who Obama gave the money to were in power at the time the original money was paid to the U.S. As far as I'm concerned, they have no legal right to that money. It should have gone to the victims of the terrorist groups that Iran has been supporting all these years.

Over population, bad economies, and 1400 years of Islamic expansion and supression of non-Muslims create migrants. The Iraq war simply worsened this.Bad immigration policies allow them in. If Israel ceased to exist, there would be 9.5 million more refugees

Fusion Conservatives support Israel because it is in our national interest ...

Global empires always justify foreign aid/interference because it's in their "national interest."

Republics do not see the world as a giant chess board, with their "national interest" extending to every continent.

Frank Meyer's "fusion conservatism" was the Neocons' foot in the door, promoted by National Review to replace traditional America First conservatism.

Time to ditch the empire and return to a republic.
