The U.S. Space Force is tracking debris in space after a satellite manufactured by Boeing exploded earlier this week, the satellite's operator said.
The Intelsat 33e satellite, which was launched in 2016 and provides communications across Europe, Asia and Africa, experienced "an anomaly" on Saturday, Intelsat said in a news release. Attempts were made to work with Boeing and repair the satellite, but on Monday, the U.S. Space Force confirmed that the satellite had exploded.

Wow. I’m retired USAF. Poor Boeing. I remember when their products where the very definition of good.
Get going with Boeing, we used to say.
It’s a side point, but a guy I know had Car Shield. He faithfully paid his monthly premiums.
Then his transmission went out. Car Shield denied his claim because of clause 14 in the agreement, paragraph 27. Too bad, so sad. And buyer beware.
I had one of those with my first girlfriend. Very embarrassing
I never tried one of those.
Please explain the loophole.
Are they tricky types who hold out against paying any claim until the last lawyer is hoarse?
Worse full auto insurance scam I heard of is a faculty member who smirked and laughed about his rates being the lowest.
His first accident the claims adjuster demanded as in the policy he prove the problems to be fixed by bringing his car in person within a brief time to a home office building in Kentucky, three states away. Unless he did that, they refused to pay the claim.
JASON
I heard something. A squeal.
GWEN
Oh no. Everything’s fine.
TEB
But... the animal is inside out.
JASON
I heard that! It’s INSIDE OUT!
TEB
And It exploded!
its the Dr. Peter Venkman rule if ‘Generally you don’t see that kind of behavior in a major appliance.” then its an anomaly
It replaced “Situation Normal All Fouled Up” (SNAFU). “Anomaly” is a much gentler and kinder word without the pejorative connotations.
“anomaly”
“Over 50 years ago it was commonly used by NASA.”
Yeah, it kinda went away as non DEI engineers fixed things.
Now it’s back.
> I never tried one of those. Please explain the loophole. <
Sure. A common one that Car Shield (and the like) use is the “preexisting conditions” loophole. Let’s say you buy a Car Shield policy in January, and pay all your premiums.
Then in March your transmission goes out. Sorry, says Car Shield. A transmission takes many months to go bad. Your transmission probably started to go bad in November. And that was before your started to pay your premiums. So your claim is denied.
Another trick: Car Shield says they will pay the mechanic of your choice directly. Sounds good! And let’s say your car problem is beyond the “preexisting conditions” period.
You’re still screwed. Your mechanic says the cost to fix your transmission is $650. But Car Shield will pay only some smaller amount, maybe $250. That’s the listed amount for transmission repair on their schedule.
Better, I think, to put some car emergency money in an envelope each month.
A message? Perhaps the first significant fallout for the Neocons starting the Ukraine War. After all, Boeing was NOT woke when the satellite launched in 2016, so the usual reasons don’t apply.
Nope. Defective center fuel tank.
Glad I quit flying in 2012... Best decision ever 🤣🤣🤣
Wow. Thanks.
So after the showroom nearly all the days of driving a car added to a “pre-existing condition” and a proportion of the problem. Sort of like the tire warranty for the amount after driving some miles.
So many people in the world are evil.
In the 4th grade my teacher called me a cynic. In my early 20s a young woman said “That was sad.” I had never thought of it that way but it was sad.
What can explode on a satellite?

Fuel.

So true. Permit me to add another story. Awhile back I was talking to a mechanic at a Chevy dealership. And we were talking about warranties like the Car Shield one.
He said that rebuilding a transmission is highly skilled work. His dealership charges $180 an hour for such labor. Car Shield will reimburse a policy holder at $17 an hour.
Ugh! The mechanic did say that extended warranties issued by the manufacturer are a different story. They offer true coverage. And their price can be negotiated at the dealership. Otherwise, I don’t know much about that.
Space Junk not likely. We know the orbits of most of that junk.
Meteor, could be.
Battery not likely as they burn hot and furious but not explode as described in the article.
Russian or Chinese killer satellite possible but not probable. We would have tracked it.
My money is on meteor followed by space junk.
Thanks. Sad that anything in a commercial is based on lies and ways to cheat the victim/buyer at home.
Now I’ll have to spend days or weeks trying to find my first exception. But that would be based on a personal weakness such as filling a need that shouldn’t be filled by the ad item.
Everything in an ad is based on causing fear.
You won’t be loved. You won’t fit in with others. You won’t be attractive. You will be sick (before the drug side effects kill you). Plus Trump ads to fear him as a bad guy.
Possibly The “Best & Brightest?”
Thank you for the details..there are a lot of Geo satellites but being higher up will hopefully have less of a chance to do damage to other spacecraft than if it were Leo. The hydrazine explanation makes sense. I wonder if anyone is working on a space debris vacuum cleaner. Sooner or later we’ll need one..
