I find this interesting. If we add up the debt owed to us by the debt we owe, we are not as bad as we thought. I think people forget countries owe us money.
The top country that owes the U.S. money is the United States.
This is one gigantic advertisement. Impossible to read the article without navigating through an endless maze of ads—which is becoming the norm for every web site.
Here’s an idea. Slap an import tariff on all countries that owe us money. Do not remove the tariff until the debt is paid.
Side note: I’m in favor of reasonable import tariffs in general. Such tariffs would help to rebuild American industry, which is a goal of Trump’s. 🏭🇺🇸
My idea above would be over and above such tariffs.
I like that. I think you are thinking along the same lines as president trump.
True. I was stunned to see the countries that owe us a lot of money.

You’re right. But permit me to mention an honored Free Republic tradition. Once you’ve been here 10+ years (like you and I have), there’s no need to read the article before commenting. Just take a quick look at the headline. Then say whatever comes to mind.

This is a list of countries that hold US debt. By this methodology my credit card company owes me money.
I believe China owes us trillions in old railroad bonds.
a lotta BRICS countries. Make sure they pay back in dollars.
Then adios them from all aid...money\goods\services\defense.
A very surprising list.

Idiocy.
“This is a list of countries that hold US debt. By this methodology my credit card company owes me money.”
Yes. All these countries sent all this money to the US for a promise by us to pay them back, plus interest.
I don’t see any way this is a list of countries that owe us money.
I resemble that remark.
This is a list of countries that hold US debt. By this methodology my credit card company owes me money.

EXACTLY, brain dead reporting. These countries LOANED, Bought US Treasury Bonds and Notes in exchange for guaranteed interest payments to them from the US.
The brain dead do not realize these instruments held by foreign countries fund our day to day operations. When they sell them off, ( which they are) we have much less “ money” to operate- and the other portion of “ Revenues “ are taxes, which must increase to keep us afloat.
Currently China and Japan have been selling off. China at one time held 1.4 Trillion in US bonds, now unloading….when the US has no more buyers for our debt- we default….hello Venezuela.
“Yes. All these countries sent all this money to the US for a promise by us to pay them back, plus interest.”
This is the dumbest article of all times. Many internal inconsistencies.
