EU ministers are debating alternatives to Russian gas imports as the Ukraine transit deal expires in December 2024..

Concerns are rising regarding rising Russian LNG imports and the effectiveness of EU sanctions on re-exports..

Some EU members advocate for stricter LNG reporting and alternatives like Azerbaijan are being discussed, but no concrete solutions are yet agreed upon..

European Union energy ministers are discussing the flows of natural gas from Russia to the EU as the transit deal via Ukraine is nearing its end.

The ministers are also talking about the issue of Russia’s LNG shipments to the bloc, which have been rising in recent months.

...

We have seen in Belgium a doubling of LNG volumes.

...

Slovakia, which continues to receive Russian gas, has said it would like to continue using the route via Ukraine.

...

The EU is nowhere near an agreement on replacing Russian flows, and a possible deal could even be struck at the 11th hour or early next year

Look...Ukraine is a benefactor of Russia moving gas through their lines...because of the fees they charge.

That's why they sabotaged Nord Stream.

But there's still one (of 4) that is operable. I've been saying right along that Germany will approve the line being opened....

Or they will tell Ukraine to make a deal...or they will get sh** from the EU. They are not about to weaken all those countries for the likes of Zelensky.

Excuse me.

They already have -- big time!

So far, the Germans have not moved on repairing the lines. Corrosion is said now to be a permanent problem.

Adding to the script...LNG ports are being prepared to ‘ship’ in natural gas. If you ask locals about the ports...fair amount of hostility (they don’t want them).

Way things are going...there’s also some appeal to drilling within Germany for natural gas (they know there are deposits).

Election comes next year, and I suspect anti-Ukraine sentiments will be part of the chatter. Buying Russian natural gas by late 2025...will happen.

“”””They are not about to weaken all those countries for the likes of Zelensky.””””

There are issues between NATO/Europe and Russia, you pretend that NATO’s defensive concerns and defensive reactions to Russian aggression and war are based on whoever is the current president of Ukraine, it isn’t.
