When Bret Met Kamala
https://www.nationalreview.com ^ | 10/17/2024 | Jim Geraghty

On the menu today: We didn’t get a second debate between Donald Trump and Vice President Kamala Harris, but perhaps last night gave us something even better — Harris forced to face tough questions about the Biden administration’s record from a questioner who cared about the details and wasn’t going to let her filibuster. Meanwhile, speaking before a union in Philadelphia, President Biden boasts that he can’t wait to see Donald Trump get sentenced for his felony convictions.

For a long stretch, Americans have hungered for real leadership. We’ve yearned for a figure who was sharp, well-versed on all the tough issues on our national political scene, and not afraid to get into the details. A level-headed thinker who challenges assumptions and rejects the knee-jerk rhetoric and partisan talking points. Someone on the hunt for genuine answers to the country’s questions, with little patience for blather. Whether it’s a moment of crisis or a relatively normal evening, we just want to turn on the television and see someone talking to us who’s poised, reassuring, and direct.

Finally, last night, the 2024 presidential campaign delivered us that figure.

The only problem is that Bret Baier isn’t running for president.

Ho long before someone on the left admits that she blew it?

Long after the left claims that Brett Baier is a bully and a racist.

I think when her people stopped it, that was the clue they know it was a disaster.

*************

Not sure that's really true in today's version of America. We live in a sea of lies.

ONE OF THE EARLY QUESTIONS:

BAIER: Yes, but do you — just a number. Do you think it’s 1 million, 3 million?

HARRIS: But — but — Bret, let’s just get to the point, OK?

The point is that we have a broken immigration system that needs to be repaired. And . . .

BAIER: So, your homeland-security secretary said that 85 percent of apprehensions . . .

HARRIS: Well, I’m not — but I’m not finished. I’m not finished. We have — but we have an immigration system that needs to be fixed.

BAIER: It’s a rough estimate of 6 million people have been released into the country. And let me just finish. I will get to the question. I promise you.

HARRIS: I was beginning to answer.

________________________________

IMPRESSION:

Harris does not know that estimated figure, because she does not want to know it.

SEE HERE:

This morning, the spin from the Harris fanbase and figures like Obama adviser David Plouffe was that it was an “ambush” interview. Yeah right. Unlike Trump who is continually being ambushed, She had always been expecting softballs. NOT HERE.

I can’t believe anyone thought Harris did even O.K.

She bombed, didn’t answer a question, appeared evasive, attempted multiple times to misdirect back to Trump when Trump had nothing to do with the question, Appeared stupid with her silly grin and responses, seemed like she was totally unprepared, rushed off the stage by her crew who knew she was bombing. Loved the non-response to when did she notice Biden’s dementia, LOL.

Can’t put lipstick on that.

I didn’t think the questions were that tough. It was just the first time Harris has had an interviewer aggressively follow up on her non answers and she couldn’t handle it.

Here’s another gem:

BRETT: “Your campaign slogan is ‘a new way forward,’ and it’s time to turn the page. You’ve been vice president for three and a half years. So what are you turning the page from?”

KAMALA: “Well, first of all, turning the page from the last decade in which we’ve been burdened with the kind of rhetoric coming from Donald Trump that has been designed and implemented to divide our country and have Americans literally point fingers at each other, rhetoric and an approach to leadership that suggests that the strength of a leader is based on who you beat down instead of what we all know: The strength of leadership is based on who you lift up,”

IMPRESSION:

Her presidency will be a continuation of Joe Biden’s policies, with a fresher face instead of a geriatric shuffling around the White House. BUT EXPECT MORE OF THE SAME OR WORSE.

“When did you first notice that President Biden’s mental faculties appeared diminished?” Bret asked Kamala.

She launched right into canned talking points. “Joe Biden, I have watched from the Oval Office to the Situation Room. And he has the judgment and the experience to do what he has done in making important decisions on behalf of the American people.”

Non-answer. Complete avoidance of the question, and when Baier pressed on the issue, her response was to deflect by saying, “Joe Biden isn’t on the ballot.”

It would have been great if Baier had said, “And the reason for that is...?” but he didn’t.

I am not interested in a level headed thinker. I am interested in a person who is willing and able to fight for the American citizens. There are millions of level headed weak people who will get into office and then just sigh off on whatever the swamp wants to do. I don’t want that guy. Kamala is weak. And she wants to do things that are at odds with America. She can’t even be honest with America because she would not get elected. But democrats don’t seem to mind obvious lies as long as Trump is not in office. Because he will do what America wants. This is not a fight between Trump and Harris. Its a fight between the American citizens and the American swamp.

By the way the Marquette poll came out yesterday. It would move Trump into the lead in Wisconsin. But the Real Clear Web-site has stuck with the old poll showing Harris with a 4 point lead. Nobody believes that poll. It was an outlier at the time it was published. Now its out of touch by more than the margin of error. And the new poll has them tied. Marquette is a very left leaning poll. It always has been. If Harris is tied by that poll she is in big trouble. But the interesting issue is that RCP is clearly holding on to an out of date poll to stop the negative headlines. RCP can’t be trusted. Its not just the polls that are slanted. Its RCP as well.

That exchange was a disaster for Kamala, they can spin it, but it was a disaster.

“But these problems we’re discussing have occurred during your 3 1/2 years in office.”

“But Trumps been running”

“But you’re the one who’s actually been in office”

“You know what I mean”

“No, I don’t know what you mean.”

She’s a slightly more attractive and polished version of Fani Willis. Complete product of the DEI industry. Willis was exposed as being completely over her head in the Georgia trial, hopefully Harris will be exposed in a similar fashion on 05 November.

Bret asked: “There’s a lot of people that look back at what you said in 2019 when you first ran for president, and there have been changes, and you’ve talked about some of them. When it comes to immigration, you supported allowing immigrants in the country illegally to apply for driver’s licenses, to qualify for free tuition at universities, to be enrolled in free healthcare. Do you still support those things?”

“That was five years ago,” Kamala replied, “and I’m very clear that I will follow the law. I make that statement over and over again, and as vice president of the United States, that’s exactly what I’ve done.”

Saying “I’ll follow the law” is not a policy position, but she did indeed repeat it “over and over again.”

Bret pointed out that her running mate, Tim Walz, supports those things.

“We are very clear, and I am very clear, as is Tim Walz, that we must support and enforce federal law.”

Another non-answer.

Bret himself summed up the gist of the interview:

He said he actually had no idea what she was talking about.

that exchange was another, in a long list, that made kamala look totally foolish. Can’t spin that.
