One of the worst mass casualty strikes on Israel in a year of war came not from dozens of Iranian ballistic missiles nor the repeated barrages of rocket fire launched by Hamas and Hezbollah. Instead, it was a single drone.
The unmanned aerial vehicle, laden with explosives, evaded Israel’s multilayered air-defense system and slammed into a mess hall at a military training camp deep inside Israel, killing four soldiers and wounding dozens.
It is the latest achievement for Hezbollah’s drone fleet and has shined a light on Israel’s struggle over the past year of war to knock down unmanned aircraft coming from as far away as Yemen, Iraq and Iran.

Regardless of how they evade Israeli defenses, they must countered. Drones are deadly accurate. This, along with the dire Iranian ballistic missile threat, is why the Israelis haven’t retaliated yet.
I believe that's correct for the most part. They have a lot less vulnerability to jamming.
This, along with the dire Iranian ballistic missile threat, is why the Israelis haven’t retaliated yet.
I respectfully disagree with that. IMHO, the main reason that Israel hasn't directly attacked Iran is because Israel doesn't have proxy communities living in and near Iran like Iran has on Israel.
Will the Muslim nations allow Israel to use their airspace to strike Iran? That's probably a bit much to ask, even with the whole Sunni/Shiite hate, and even with the Abraham Accords. For an air attack, Israel would need permission from Jordan and Iraq (or Syria and Iraq, or Jordan and Saudi Arabia). I can't imagine Iraq being willing to have another 10-year war with Iran. For a sea attack Israel would have to convince Egypt to allow their ships to pass through the Suez Canal into the Arabian Sea.
These drones are becoming increasingly more stealthy and deadly. It is a tremendous challenge to defend stationery targets such as airfields, barracks, and important buildings. Israel, surrounded by enemies and innumerable hidden launch sites, requires superb intelligence and covert operations to defend itself until a technological solution is found. The silicon chip has changed warfare.
Does Israel have missile subs? If so, what are the odds they are in the Persian Gulf? Does Israel have ICBM’s? If so, they don’t really need flyover permission from anyone.
It will be a celebration when the mad mullah’s of Iran are finally dispatched and defeated as the cancer that they are.

Israel will devise a way to counter them. Bet on it.

Two other drones from Lebanon shot down; residents reported hearing buzzing sound before large explosion, no warning sirens sounded; rockets fired at targets across northern Israel
