Power Restoration Nearing End in Florida After Hurricane Milton

Power restoration is nearing the end in Florida less than a week after Hurricane Milton, according to recent figures.

Well over 3 million were without power in the aftermath of Hurricane Milton — a Category 3 storm that barreled down on Florida’s west coast Wednesday before making its way across the state, exiting off the east coast. The storm included at least 116 tornado warnings with 19 that touched down before the storm made official landfall.

Prior to the storm, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) previewed roughly 50,000 linemen ready to restore power in the state thanks to out-of-state crews on their way.

Desantis and his great leadership. FEMA can suck it.

Best governor in the nation for logistics, too bad his charisma is a black hole when campaigning for a national slot.

That’s really impressive. Quite an awesome and organized response.

FEMA can and should be ELIMINATED. Its pure Fed.gov wasteful bloat and DEI that actually causes more harm.

Instead, create regional disaster response boards made up of STATE governors. For example, SE Region can include FL, GA, AL, LA, MS, SC

They can cooperate and share assets among themselves, with a hotline to President to request military or Federal assets in their states, as they determine

I heard Tampa Power say that 52% of the county has underground electricity. Which, he said, is very high for the state and partially explains how fast the electricity is coming back on

Absolutely awesome! I'm so happy for all Floridians who have suffered through Milton, Helene, etc. And Florida is such a big state. Lots of logistics and area to cover.

When we lived in Connecticut, the always democRAT governor and administration couldn't find their way out of a paper bag in trying to get the *much smaller state of CT* back up and running.

Same for the rotten Eversource electric utility - the most expensive and worst in the US.

I had close family members who found themselves in the storm's crosshairs in Tampa. They were in a mandatory evacuation zone and scooted out of Tampa on Tuesday before the storm hit on Wednesday and came north about 500 miles to spend a few days here.

Watching Desantis navigate the complexities of not one but two massive storms up close and personal in less than two weeks is like watching Elon Musk land his rocket ship back on the launch stand.

Absolutely amazing. Who needs a dumbed-down federal government??

Our power and wifi came back on in 24 hours.

Desantis had a bazillion linemen/power trucks staged and ready to deploy AHEAD OF TIME. Imagine that, a governor who knows how to GOVERN.

Got power back in Naples last night for a couple hours (but it constantly would shut down for a few seconds every 10 minutes or so). Then at 3:00am it shut off until 8:00 am this morning.

Off again at 10:00am. Only to return about 45 minutes ago, 1:50pm.

We will see how long this time.

Odd since it is all underground here in neighborhoods.

But plenty of people are still out.

A brother north of Orlando was out of power for 14 hours.

We’ve been out of power longer than that duirng the results of a couple of “Noreaster”storms in the NY/NJ area in years past.

I don’t necessarily agree; having a nationwide response asset can be crucial in getting aid to those in need. Rather, I would like to see a specific and defined mission statement for them put into law so this social engineering creep cannot ever rear its head.

The power companies had linemen and trucks staged, not the governor. The governor most certainly advised that they do that, but it is pretty much standard practice in areas prone to hurricane activity to have standing agreements with other power companies and contractors.

Not taking away from Desantis - he does a fantastic job with running the state and responding to disasters like this, but only Florida Power, Tampa Electric, Lee County Electric Coop, and others can set up their own response. I’m sure that he and the state coordinate with the utilities.

Meanwhile, the mess in North Carolina continues, though the situation is enormously different there. Many roads are just gone. TVA had to fly people, by helicopter, into an area to start reconstructing transmission lines that were damaged in the NE Tennessee/NW North Carolina area. Local distribution entities are having to basically clear a path and sometimes, make a road, just to get to customers.

Don’t forget the fact that Donald J. Trump provided free lodging for many linemen at his Doral(?) Golf Club.

275 of those linemen got a real treat:

TRUMP COMPED THEM AT MAR A LAGO.

That is a story to tell for a lifetime
