Kurricane Milton made landfall Wednesday evening along Florida's Gulf Coast as a Category 3 storm, unleashing powerful winds, deadly storm surge, and the threat of widespread flooding across much of the state.
More than 2 million customers lost power as Hurricane Milton carved a path through central Florida late Wednesday,. .. Shocking images show how the roof of the iconic Tropicana Stadium has been ripped off from the power of the winds.
Milton, which twice reached Category 5 status while drawing energy from the warm waters of the Gulf of Mexico, had maximum sustained winds of 120 mph when it hit Siesta Key, Florida, at 8:30 p.m....
The storm brought a dangerous storm surge to densely populated areas along Florida's Gulf Coast, including Tampa, St. Petersburg, Sarasota, and Fort Myers.
Milton powered east-northeast across Florida to the Atlantic Ocean and offshore early Thursday with maximum sustained winds of 85 miles per hour (145 kph)
That kept Milton at Category 1 hurricane strength..

Scientists Call This Hurricane Season 'The Weirdest They Have Ever Seen'
Colorado State University hurricane researcher Phil Klotzbach noted that while Beryl became the earliest storm on record to reach Category 5 status, there was an unusual lull in activity from Aug. 20— the traditional start of peak hurricane season— until Sept. 23. Then, in an unprecedented shift, five hurricanes formed between Sept. 26 and Oct. 6, more than doubling the previous record of two.

Thanks for posting. Isn’t the Tropicana Stadium the place they set up with wall to wall beds for shelter from the storm? I saw a picture on the news a couple of days ago and the beds were in perfect rows and totally filled the entire field. When I heard in the night that the roof or portion of it had been torn off, I wondered about the people who would have sought refuge there. Lots of prayers last night.
I’m in Orlando. Never lost power. I did have 5 of my 8foot wide privacy fence panels go down but those sections were older. Cable is out though. I’ll take it.
The idiocy displayed on my TV this morning from all of the news teams. It is amazing to me that these people cannot see how stupid they look.
IF YOU DON’T EVACUATE, YOU WILL DIE! And ACTION NEWS 5 will be here to bring you exclusive coverage!
Wait.... whut?
my 80YO uncle is in Bradenton, 20 miles inland. He never evacuated
FOX just had pictures of the stadium roof torn off and it doesn’t appear to be the place where all the beds/cots were set up. A total mess inside the stadium but nothing to indicate that is what I saw earlier in the week! The baseball field is clear to see even with debris.
water was sucked out of Tampa Bay (last video at link)
This states it was set up for first responders...no sign it was set up with the rows and rows of cots I saw earlier. It doesn’t appear likely that all those perfect rows would not have shown SOME semblance of order even with the damage. Picture in link..
Sorry - there IS a picture with all the cots lined up...I hadn’t gone to the end of the article....the article said the “outfield” but it looks like more than the “outfield” was used..
Cedar Key also had water sucked out (third pix down at link)
Local news station last night were lamenting the destruction of the stadium as if it had been wiped off the map. Reminiscing about the times they had attended games there. They were going on like it was Fenway or Wrigley that was destroyed. It was funny to watch these fools go on an on about it.
It was a dump and they have been trying to get rid of it since 2000. Only the roof appears to be damaged and it looks fixable. The question is do you bother to fix it or just open it up until a new building is built.
Help us, Obi wan Kamala! You’re our only hope.
Who knows—the Tampa baseball team might actually consider moving from St. Petersburg to Tampa.
Lol.

I do not think the hurricane was nearly as bad as expected/projected. The tornadoes were worse.
Just north of Daytona (in that single red county on the east coast of Florida). Lost power for an hour. Lots of branches, lots of water, but my house was high enough that none got in. Incredibly loud last night.
The roof was some sort of fabric over a metal frame. The frame is still intact.
The “You’re gonna die!!” Hyperbole was from Tampa mayor Jane Castor, who, as police chief, never saw an issue she couldn’t blame someone else for. Total DEI hire.
My daughter evacuated from Tampa to a friend's house in Orlando. They lost power there and she has no word about her apartment in Tampa, but it's probably OK. She says most of Tampa is without power.
We still aren’t connected after Helene here. I am about 30 mins south of Asheville. Our 15 foot roof hole has been repaired, we have 1990s. ELL signal unless I am at work.
Thank you Florida for governor DeSantis who sent engineering pieces to rescue the isolated mountains.
