Robert Jenrick and Kemi Badenoch are the final two candidates to become Conservative leader after James Cleverly was eliminated in the last round of voting among Tory MPs in a stunning turnaround of fortune.
Cleverly had topped the third round of voting, but came third in the one on Wednesday, losing two MPs’ votes to reach a total of 37. Badenoch came first, going from 30 votes on Tuesday to 42. Jenrick moved from 31 supporters to 41.
The choice will now be made in a ballot of Conservative party members, with the result announced on 2 November.
It means the next opposition leader will be firmly on the right of party, with the main differences between Jenrick and Badenoch ones of emphasis. Jenrick has pushed policies around migration, while Badenoch has focused more on culture war issues and institutional reform.

They have a weird way of selecting a leader... The party faithful get no say until the higher echelon of the party selects two candidates. Why not have the entire party membership start their voting when there is a multitude of candidates???
The Conservative party needs Conservatives... Not closet Labour Party supporters.
Troy leader is cleverly eliminated.
OK.
it’s just the way they do it
Like super delegates

Yep. Such a method would probably not produce a brash outsider like Trump. But neither would it produce a complete idiot like Harris.
American House and Senate party caucuses select their own chamber leaders, and the whole House selects the Speaker. Party faithful don’t vote on those leaders. US is not different from the UK in that regard.
I have no idea why they call the Tories “conservatives.” They are just another form of leftists.
Because the party leader has to work with and lead the parties MPs. Previously the selection was made only by sitting MPs.
Until the 60’s the party leader was determined informally by party grandees, until the Queen got dragged into the process in 1957 and 1963 and the Tories formalized an actual procedure for electing a leader.
Knock me down with a feather, Clever Trevor...
