uring a CNN interview on Sunday afternoon, volunteer pilots and relief organizers criticized the federal government's response to Hurricane Helene, saying there's "still no FEMA [Federal Emergency Management Agency], still no military" in North Carolina, which was ravaged by the storm late last month.
Hurricane Helene made landfall on Florida's Big Bend region on September 26 as a Category 4 hurricane and then tore through the Southeast region of the United States. It hit parts of Western North Carolina particularly hard, washing away roads, destroying homes, and leaving millions without power.
According to the Associated Press, 227 people have died across six states as a result of the storm, with the number expected to rise as relief efforts continue, making it the deadliest hurricane to hit the U.S. mainland since Hurricane Katrina in 2005.
On Sunday, directors of two major volunteer relief groups, Operation Airdrop and Operation Helo, somberly described the realities on the ground to CNN host Omar Jimenez.

They would be crucifying Trump or Bush.
In the words of modern atheists, Americans have been trained to plead to the "sky daddy" of Fed.gov to provide for their every need, right every injustice, and to save them in time of crisis.
Let's hope they begin to realize they are worshipping a false, bankrupt and corrupt god.
Ummm...considering that there are videos of FEMA choppers intentionally rotor washing donation points and FEMA managers taking over airports and stopping civilian donation flights, maybe people aren’t too interested in them showing up at this point anyway.
Heckuva job, entire federal government.
This is the 2nd article I have seen from Newsweek blasting the FEMA response.
What? No Shep Smith in North Carolina Choking and holding back tears as he gives a live report? The “news media” is scum.
North Carolina has a National Guard don’t they? How about the democrapic gov calls them out? I have not seen them in one video. I see them in Tennessee where the Republican Gov. called them out but not in NC. What gives?
“Our failures are proof we are underfunded and understaffed. Government only rewards its failures because that’s what grows government and diminishes your liberties.”
It doesn’t matter who’s in the the White House. Don’t depend on government in an emergency of this magnitude.
“Government do something” is how we got communism.
FEMA’s primary mission is to make sure that someone is available to grant release of nuclear weapons and in that the continuity of government. FEMA is a massive 2nd government. That is it. All this other stuff is a side show.
Just over two hours to the west sits nearly a thousand helicopters at the Army’s helicopter division, the famed 101st at Ft Campbell, KY. So far they have send a group of all terrain vehicles and some soldiers, nothing more that I have heard.

It’s a lot worse.
If government can’t do the things it insists we pay it to do at the point of a gun and the threat of an IRS audit, then we don’t really need it.
