The dockworkers of Venezuela might also be brought in under Joe Biden’s TPS umbrella.

Ships from Mexico with two layers of empty containers might be brought in for training purposes.

The lower layer would prevent damage to the ship in case an upper-level container was dropped.

Not to worry....Biden will be our savior...and invoke Taft-Hartley. I believe Nixon did it in 1971....yes...those Longshoremen were ordered back to work.

Sounds like a rich union they get no sympathy from me. Our firemen and police didn’t strike during a national emergency and our military can’t strike when we need them. I have no sympathy as people will be freezing this winter.

You know that I can’t find who actually owns those ports and the facilities. I would assume that the corresponding state owns them. But I can’t officially find the answer.

If they are owned by the state then kick those workers out and bring in the national guard to run them until those unions decide to play nice.

But who owns them? Does anyone know?

Reno is only about 45 miles from Lake Tahoe and gets annual snowfall in the mid- 20 inches, which admittedly isn’t that much.

Leader.

Maybe God kept RD in FL, instead of DC, for the purposes of rescuing the country’s economy from Harris-Biden’s sabotage.

Maybe I’m missing something, but this sounds like a lot of pointless posturing. The Florida National Guard and State Guard aren’t going to be unloading ships. They’re just going to be made available to maintain order if the terminal operators want to hire replacement workers — which I think is very highly unlikely.

Maybe I'm the one reading too much into: "...if possible, resume operations which would otherwise be shut down during this interruption.” That, to me, sounds like DeSantis is threatening to use the NG to unload ships.

it sounds like some of these ships have contracts and can’t be contractual law unload elsewhere? If so, how shameful even more that this union is so cold hearted towards American citizens.

I don’t know why DeSantis couldn’t be Vance’s running mate

Even under the most ludicrous totalitarian application of American fascism, I cannot envision any scenario where a private employer would have the ability to use government employees to replace striking workers.

Went to Sam’s Club in Jacksonville, thought I would pick up some toilet paper because most of our paper product comes in from overseas. They were totally out. Another shopper said they were out yesterday. As Yogi Berra said:”It’s Deja Vu all over again!”

A port — meaning the land and harbor channels — is typically owned by a government or quasi-government agency such as a port authority. In many ports, the port authority then signs contracts or leases with private companies to build and/or operate the marine terminals.

The ships I see unloading at our port have their own cranes. Load directly onto the docks. Forklifts move the containers onto trucks

Areas of west Texas (San Angelo to Lubbock) have mild winters and low humidity. Summers in the 90’s mostly, winters mostly in the 70’s to 80’s. Also close to skiing in central and northern New Mexico. I grew up in Amarillo and winters there lows in the low to mid-20’s, highs in the 60’s.

Port of Corpus Christi is a separate entity with a director and board
I suspect that this applies to all ports

I don’t see how the Florida guards know how to run a port.

I’m presuming ports today actually use those things called computers.

Does the Guard have the appropriate logins and know how to use the appropriate software?
