FIRST-TIME VOTERS: Hispanic Tulsans talk importance of voting accessibility

TULSA, Okla. β€” In the 2024 election 22% of Latinos are voting in their first-ever election according to a poll by Unidos US in 2023.

In Tulsa, it is apparent the Hispanic community is prioritizing voting this year.

Luis Talamantes and his mom, Samira Izaguirre, are voting together in their first-ever presidential election in November. Luis said he wants to be able to use his fundamental right as a citizen to make sure his voice is heard.

"I do feel that this election is going to affect not only other generations, but my generation," he said.

(Translated from Spanish) "I hope many more people vote," said Izaguirre. "Whoever wins, wins, but we shouldn't have to feel bad because a candidate lost because there weren't enough votes."

Blanca Zavala started helping the Hispanic community register to vote in 2007. She is bilingual and explains the voting process to people in both English and Spanish.

"I can help them with guidance, filling out the application, submitting the application, and tell them what to expect," she said.

She's seen an increasing number of Latino and Hispanic people getting registered to vote.

β€œIt is very important that we get out and vote," said Zavala. "Because one vote can make a difference.”

She said for anyone looking for help on how to register, she can be reached at +1(918) 231-3340.

Samira said while she thinks there have been more Hispanic and Latinos registering to vote, she said there is still a lot of work to do.

(Translated from Spanish) "We need to involve ourselves more into politics," she said. "We need to all get to know ourselves more so that we can understand each other and what we need, so DECISIONS CAN BE MADE TO BENEFIT US."

One prong of a multipronged approach to destroy a nation.

So the DNC has made the call and activated their imported sleeper cells across the country, but especially in red states?

I own a wheat farm in NW Oklahoma. Several years ago, Oklahoma passed several anti-illegal alien laws, and ran them out of the state. I would wager that the overwhelming majority of hispanics in Oklahoma are legal, and are Trump supporters.

I think that legal Hispanic Americans - many of whom have been here for many generations - tend to be very conservative. They resent the illegal immigration as much as we do.

I have no problem with legal citizens voting. It should not be assumed that all Hispanic citizens will vote Democrat. Even if they do, as long as they are legal citizens it is their right.

I am in Tulsa and grew up here, so I am very aware that Tulsa has changed quite a bit over the years. I cannot account for every Hispanic person in Tulsa, of course, but the Hispanic people I personally interact with daily and at church are hardworking, family-oriented people deserving of my respect. This is not a perfect world. But I sure say it’s high time the local Hispanic community got more involved as Americans with local politics in Tulsa. And if you are wondering, Tulsans, all of us, are generally laid back, friendly, polite, and often helpful to each other. It is still a nice place to live.

Uh, no.

Other then the Miami Cubans, who actually had their property taken at gunpoint by Castro, the mass of Mexicans in the West may have some ordinary social conservatism - they hate queers, it’s the worst thing you can call a Mexican - the rest of them are violent nationalists, and not the American nationalist kind.

They simply want to erect a Spanish speaking nation on American soil because a) they think this is their land and b) they can actually make real money here.

The war between Catholic Spain and Protestant England never ended, certainly not in West Spain, commonly known as “Mexico”. And if you think they forgot about the war, uh, no, again. They know that they can’t beat the gringos with their decrepit military, but they can by simply walking in and using the gringo laws against them. This is why places that were lilly White since the 1850’s in California (e.g. Anaheim) are now absolute majority Mexican. Er, “hispanic”, whatever that is.

So no, they don’t resent illegal immigration. Los Pochos only think Los Mojados aren’t as smart as they were when they went North 30 or 40 years ago.

You really need to live it to understand it. And you need to know them, and understand that they aren’t kidding.

That isn’t what I’ve heard from many of the long-time American citizens who have been interviewed over the years. They intensely resent illegal immigration.
