Imported wines, beers, and spirits, too.

May indeed be time to panic. :)

We’ll be glad for what we can get soon. ‘Panic’ buying was going on at at both of our Aldi markets yesterday.
Eggs were $3.76. Insane.

“The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) released a statement Tuesday saying it doesn’t anticipate food prices will be significantly affected by the port strike in the near term.”

***************

Sounds like this was a statement written by Jay “Transitory” Powell.

"Thanks to the typically smooth movement through the ports of goods, and our strong domestic agricultural production, we do not expect shortages anytime in the near future for most items."

Ummm... Isn't the whole point of this article the fact that the ports are in fact NOT in a typical smooth movement due to the strike??

If the strike is prolonged they can load goods on smaller ships and take it through the St. Laurence Seaway to the ports on the Great Lakes.

Toledo and Buffalo would be glad to see the trade.

Lots of fruits and veggies come by refrigerated and atmosphere controlled containers. Container ships are the clipper ships of the day.

Many necessary things will flow to Mexican & Canadian ports to then be trucked and/or air freighted to the US. Those items will be much more expensive than before, but of course they will lie about it.

Let’s hear what Krugman says ... and then know the opposite will be true.

Idk if you have seen the videos of what Hurricane Helene has done to western North Carolina, Tennessee, Georgia, Florida? But I can tell you western NC is decimated. There is nothing left of small towns but people who have been cut off from the rest of the world and have nothing but the clothes on their backs. Anyway, IMO, like in your area, in my area of central NC, the shelves looked pretty bare of a lot of things you mentioned. I am guessing it MIGHT be because people are buying to send supplies to these people who literally have nothing. Maybe I am wrong, but hope that is what is causing this craziness of people buying the shelves empty? I do know quite a few Americans & private organizations are asking for donations and making the trek to deliver them to those in need. God Bless them!

Of course, you will always have people out there hearing “shortages” and then just go crazy buying things up. Thinking they may not be able to get the products or perhaps trying to beat price increases. Yep, there will always be people like that no matter where you go.

People panic buying.

I’ve been stocking up for months now.

Anyone who has any amount of foresight should have seen this coming just before the election. And winter.

We need a man at the border, you know, to keep a tally of how many stacks they bring in.

Even though the strike is on the East Coast and the Gulf Coast, there are reports of panic buying of toilet paper at a Costco up here just to the east of Tacoma. Also, yesterday on my doordash run, somebody ordered nine gallons of water from a 7-Eleven. Panic buying? Maybe.

Awareness - The East Coast and Gulf Coast Dockworkers strike
The strike and it's ripple effect in the supply chain , may take weeks to unravel and unsnarl the problems

(From the article) :”Unionized dockworkers at East Coast and Gulf Coast ports began a strike Monday that will affect the flow of goods
through ports that handle about half of seaborne trade to the U.S. and could have an impact on food prices. “

”Ports affected by the International Longshoremen’s Association strike are key hubs for food imports from places like South America and Central America.
For example, about two-thirds of bananas arrive at East Coast and Gulf Coast ports.”

”The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) released a statement Tuesday saying
it doesn’t anticipate food prices will be significantly affected by the port strike in the near term."

We have an Aldi in town. Most of their stuff comes from Germany. We’ll see what happens there.

The fact the US state-run mainstream media isn’t saying anything about the potential consequences tells me the Deep-state Democrat Party DC Politburo does not have an approved position

And if the DC Politburo doesn’t have a clear political slogan for this issue, it indicates there’s an internal fight on what the position and slogan should be

Which to me indicates that some faction (FJB/Jill?) are trying to screw-over Harris/Waltz by letting this strike play out

Its conjecture built on several unprovable assumptions, but its the best I have, from having lived in other centralized marxist governments.

Union “workers” couldn’t care less about the American people. They are the ones who cause the cost of EVERYTHING to skyrocket. POS.
