Joe Biden could have single handedly revived the show's decline if they had simply taken advantage of the comedic material he offered them.
Hard to believe but that was actually a fairly-accurate portrayal of The Giggler and The Biden

It made the Gutfiled Show worth watching and ushered in a great comic genius in Tyler Fischer. Who does a great Trump too.
SNL didn’t hesitate to go after Trump. It made them look petty, evil and disgusting.

They got rid of their last good cast which was in the mid 90s. I could list a whole bunch of them who had success in movies and other roles. Since then, their casts have been largely crap filled with people who haven’t had success at much of anything.

I tend to think certain shows stay on TV because the present administration wants these shoes on to serve as tools of propaganda. The viewer ratings hardly matter for such programs. They include SNL. The Lena Dunham show. and that show which appeared after Roseanne was cancelled for something petty. Maybe conservatives do it too. but it hardly ever happens anymore that conservatives are in the White House.
I saw Dana Carvey at a private event a few years ago. Funniest comedian I’ve ever seen. He managed the impossible. He did a highly political show but with jokes, not mocks and innuendos. There’s a Reason HW Bush would invite him to the White House to do his HW Imitation.
